new router, setup problems

Hi,

I'm back to using my old G router...

I got my new one today, but when i tried to set it up, i keep getting a problem when it test the internet connection to the modem.

I've got a modem with wireless build in, but its no good, so i turned it off so i can use my own router.

I followed all the steps the disk tells m to do, but it just doesn't work after 4 and a half hours of trying with diffrent setting and resetting everything.

Can someone help me on this ?

yes, and having my current old router working fine

ok, so now my dad had someone take care of it, internet now works, but the speeds are just way off, i should get about 50 down and 4 up, not 7 and 2, games keep saying i got disconnected etc.

no never, with my other router i was at 17 max. but now just worries me doing only 7...

I got wep protection, so real n isn't possible, but g is still 54 right ?
