Hi i am looking to upgrade my pc before or around christmas and need some advice. My budget is around £350-400 and i already have most of the parts

currently own

2gb samsung ram + 2gb pny ram (trampy mix up, i know )

I am looking to upgrade my CPU, RAM, MOBO, CPU COOLER. These are some builds i put together so far,

I would like to know if its all good and will work, if there are any better parts for the same price ect. ALSO I Would like to know whether i should wait for ivy bridge (when does that come out?) or not, get the intel build now? or wait till january ? ????? help bro's help

Yup, totally agree.

If you're not planning to OC, then something like an i3 2100 will be great for all purposes. You'll be able to upgrade to an Ivy Bridge CPU once it's released next yr. An i5 2500K will be a great upgrade over any of the AMD CPUs out currently. You'll also be able to OC with it as long as you have a compatible motherboard as well.

Motherboard choices are really by preference and I would suggest boards from Asus, Gigabyte or MSI. If you want to take advantage of onboard video and your current video card as well, a Z68 board will be fantastic. It also has SSD caching for a regular hard drive so it improves the overal performance of a regular hard drive you use for the OS or storage. It's there to help you save a bit of money if you can't afford a higher capacity SSD yet.

For RAM, you don't necessarily need high speed RAM. Day to day things or just general gaming won't be majorly affected when you already have a decent video card like the 6870. Mushkin has some great value RAM like the Silverline Stiletto, which is very recommendable. Kingston, Corsair, and G.Skill also have some value oriented RAM as well.

As for cooling. If you want to do some reasonable OC, but not too much, I'd suggest Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus/Evo. This is a great cooler that'll be good enough for any 1155 CPU at the moment. It has passed the test of time and technology so it's a pretty good unit to have and it's also not too expensive either. Here are some components that may interest you.
