New RAM

So I just got my new Corsair Dominator Platinum 8gb 1866 RAM, after ALL 16gb of my 1600mhz vengeance died. And I just wanted to know (for those who have this RAM) how high were you able to OC it? I have heard that this RAM overclocks like a monster. It is 1.5v 9-10-9-27 1866mhz. I am going to try to bump up to 2000 with no voltage change but I don’t know what to change the timings too? Never overclocked RAM before and frankly if I destroy it I will just bring it back.

Well I never used it , but I think it could possibly go over 2000 from what I heard.. maybe well over... just don't kill it :D

I doubt I'll kill it until I start messing with the voltages even then I won't go passed 1.55 which I have heard is still very safe. And if I do I am still within the 15 day return policy.

Well I am sure it will run at 2133 without issues with timings ... 10-11-10-30.. somewhere around there... maybe it will run higher... If I were you I would surely try to find out myself to be honest.

lol that's what I'm doing here. I get better results from a community I trust.

I mean't that I'd get on it with the overclocking already and see how far it goes. make sure you come back and don't disappoint with the results. :D

Hey, you're welcome to buy me some Platinum's any day of the week... :P

Nice replacement though, looking forward to see what sort of clocks you can push without a voltage increase? If at all...?

I have heard people saying that some sticks are slightly underclocked (failed version) of the step up. But if I can hit 2000mhz (2133 being the step up from mine) I think it could be a sweet spot.

To really stress test RAM you have to run it alteast 12 hours. Linus for example still got a failure after many hours.

But nice OC! Iᷰve read that the platinums were horrible overclockers. Maybe I should try it myself as well sometime ;-)

I saw the linus video on that. I think that is VERY unrealistic. Just because you test it longer and it fails doesn't mean it is unstable. EVERY ram stick will fail if you test it long enough. And I tested that theory with my last set of sticks which were under prime for 18 hours and failed hour 19 but I NEVER got any RAM issues in the 2 years that I have owned them. I did test for 12 hours though and everything checks out. I may go for a higher OC when I get back from work.

I think I just hit my memories limit. I was doing some fine tuning with the BCLK and bumped the frequency to 101.0 not much but got my memory to 2154 and has been stable for 3 hours of Prime95. I tried the next big bump without messing with the BCLK of 2400mhz but in doing so (looking at the other Corsair Plat) I probably would have needed to bump my RAMv from 1.55v to 1.65v (which I did) and computer would not boot, and that is with timings of T1 11-12-11-32.

In conclusion the Corsair Plat line is a FANTASTIC overclockable RAM.

I am surprised it didn't boot. Have you tried 2T? And don't bump the voltage super high, you risk blowing your ram. I was expecting it to hit 2400MHz... cheaper hyperx blu ram at 1600 can do 2100 OC with Intel, but still, a good overclock! congrats! :)
