new psu=overheating?

to start...when i built this computer didnt have enough money for good psu, so i bought a Rosewill one and it has just about always said a warning when i reboot, my graphics card is not recieveing sufficient power and it would automatically lower the performance of the card keeping the temp in the 50's and 60s(still to high i think), now i bought a Hiper psu and it doesnt say that now and now my temp is in the 80s constantly and i tried to play CoH to see what it would do and it skyrocketed to 130+. whats wrong w/this? could it be the drivers? im using 81.98

Have you made sure the fan is running and the airflow is ok, no large build up of dust between the heatsink fins?

yauch i think you would know if that was running at 130+

hey if the fan isnt running try take it of and cook some eggs for me plz ?

i like gpu cooked eggs :P

updated the drivers and still says it runs hot, the fan is working too, after i updated the drivers it slowed my computer down a lot too? anything else to try?

Indeed.. post a picture if possible.

Also try striping down your computer and rebuilding it, i dont know why but this worked for me.

ill take a pic this wkend, but i dont see how my airflow has changed since it was fine pre-new psu. and i also try to tidy everything up more. but i may just say beep it and get a 7600GT for now till i build a new comp.

A pict is worth a thousand words. (sometimes:) )

I guess it's an AGP card? And was it bought brand new and not O/C'd?

If your soundcard (if you've got one) is in the PCI slot directly underneath the AGP slot it could be restricting the airflow. My cards were in this config and I was getting 50+ on the GPU after about 10 minutes idle, so I dropped the soundcard down to the bottom PCI slot and the temp dropped by as much as 10degs.

Otherwise check your general airflow through the case and make sure the fan is actually turning freely enough, may be turning but not at the right speed due to dust or or something restricting the bearing.

naw its pci-x, and nope no sound card, i use onboard. dont know if the pic is gonna work or not and might be kinda big too, took it w/my 3.2megapixel camera phone. i have most of those lil wires towards the front. i order some thermal paste to redo it

I had that problem once when I forgot to plug the 6pin power to my video card.

It could have been that you didnt plug the wire in enough or the Rosewill PS didnt have enough power to run the card. (which Rosewill was it?)

The cooling looks poor at best. Try to bundle some of those wires away from the airflow.

I cant tell by the pict , is the fan mounted in the side panel blowing air to the Video card or blowing out of the case?

Also that HDD rack blocks 75% of the incoming air (also not too good)

What are the temps with the side cover off?

Well, thet's my ideas out the window:p

Yeah, I'd try bundle some of them wires up a bit. Try bundling them up above the level of the gfx card. You could strap them up to one of those holes that are in the chassis above the HDD rack.

well i redid the wires the best i could, took the card out and blew it off, plugged everything back in and now its running at about 68c now give or take a couple. the fan on the side of the case is blowing towards the card too. all the old psu says is Rosewill Performance RP550 and i know the rosewill when i was using it didnt have enough power so the card automatically lowered its performance so the warning siad when it poped up on the screen whenever i rebooted. but this Hiper Psu doesnt give that warning.

unless the rosewill was defective it should have plenty of power to run ur comp.

Try using a different power cable to run the video card.

What happens when you leave window panel off and use your comp

(fans in the side panel arent the best way to cool a comp)

i used that rosewill for well over a yr. so it couldnt of been defective. on the i Hiper i have now, it has one cable for the card adn then another but on it i have to plug it into two molex connector for the other one to work. and with the side on it seems cooler, now its down to about 63oc

is there a way to know if i put to much thermal paste on? i just put new as5 on my cpu and on my gpu along w/the nvsilencer? is it gonna like start smoking and blow up at all?
