New PSU advice

Hi guys, this is my first post

I am looking for some sound advice and I know I will get it here on overclock3d.

I am wanting to upgrade my PSU (Enermax Liberty 620w modular) for several reasons: -

Firstly due it not having dedicated 6 pin and 8 pin power cables for the GPU's i. GTX 295. I hate the fact I have to use the splitters that came with the EVGA GTX 295 as they are so untidy,

Secondly I am wanting to futureproof a little more

and

Thirdly, because I want someit new :)

Any advice more than welcome.

I cant add a pic because I have not posted 15 times, sorry

Whats ur budget for a new unit mate? There's plenty of good units around it just depends on what features u want (modular/hard wired etc) and how many reddies you can stump up for it :p

If you want the best PSU available at the moment (and expensive), the Enermax Revolution Series look great, and support up to 12 pin CPU and GPU sockets for future proofing. They come in 850W-1250W, so they should provide your 295 with enough power. Check out the 1250W here.

That Enermax Revolution does look nice I have to say.

My budget is about £150.

I am wondering if enermax would provide these 6 pin and 8 pin cables to fit my PSU. Worth an email I suppose (but I very much doubt it)

Thanks Jim,

I am defo wanting modular just makes a tidier case,

Are there PSU brands I shoud stay away from as its been a while since I purchased a PSU.

Well my 'top' list would probably consist of: Enermax, PCP&C and Corsair. There are plenty of other 'good' manufacturers like: Silverstone, Antec, Be-Quiet, Cooler Master, Tagan etc...but depending on what model you go for can make a night/day difference to performance.

Your best bet is to go to your fave retailers, see what they have on offer that you like the look of and is in ur price range, then paste them here for us to pick the best one.

If money/retailer was no object tho i'd go for either the Corsair HX1000 or the Enermax Revolution.

Antec Signature 850W.

It's silent.

It's efficient.

It has unbeaten voltage filtering & noise suppression.

:D

Its a shame I cant link to other sites yet, but I am looking at the Enermax Revolution 1050w.

Now that looks like a sweet PSU

the enermax revo is a monster, all the reviews i saw about that psu, no one said anything bad, its super stable, but the price isnt welcoming lol

If it fits the bill, I think the Antec Signature 850W (Delta built) would be one of the best units at this time. It's expensive, but it's also very well built. Performance is almost flawless.

A much cheaper PSU would be the Corsair TX750W, it has 4 6+2 PIN PCIe cables, but it's not modular and there are A LOT of cables coming out of it, I should know, I have one, I spent two nights trying to figure them out. They also claim to be a "single rail" design.

PC Power & Cooling also has a 750W unit, it's better then the Corsair unit and I've heard of people using one of those to power dual 4870X2's in CF. Seems crazy, but they say it works.

The toughpower 850 is what I ended up with, but the price is of course high here too. Allthough my "homebrewed" psucooler makes it look better I have to change it very often... :D
