New motherboard - no sound from rear panel.

Hi,
my brothers PC rear jack does not give any sound, no matter which output I use. The manual says the motherboard has "5x OFC audio jacks".

My brothers speaker cables look like this, and are connected to this. And just to be on the safe side, here is a picture of the rear outputs.
The front 3.5mm works great, but since the back has none, my question is: what the heck is an "OFC"-jack, and how do I make his speaker cables work with it?

silly question here but are all the motherboard drivers installed? as it sounds like it could be a driver issue also it would help us more if we knew which motherboard your brother has and which OS you are using matey :)

Its an MSI Z170A Gaming 5, Windows 8.1. Problem is that theres no 3.5mm on the rear, its 5 "OFC audio jacks" which ive never heard of. Obviously the speaker cables dont fit because of those small "metal plates" sticking out, the cable cant go all the way in.

But 3.5mm doesnt work??? Like shown in one of the pictures in the first post he has his speaker cables connected to a converter which has a 3.5mm, but no matter which output I use in the back theres no sound.

Are 3.5mm supposed to work in "OFC"-jacks, or do they need some "special" ones?

edit: this is the converter.

they are 3.5mm jacks mate so they should work according to the motherboard manual it goes in the RED/PINK socket which is confusing as that colour is normally associated to the microphone also your converter looks like it has a bent jack personally I would buy a lead (see link above) other than that the only thing I can think it is would be down to a driver issue
Hope this helps mate :)

Well the front 3.5mm works fine so the cable should work. I guess it might be a missing driver then, I dont believe I ever downloaded one for him, I assumed it worked out-of-the-box. I'll give it a try, thanks.

Installing driver worked. There even was some fancy MSI-software where he can fiddle with bass-boost, surround and other audio features. Really though audio jacks worked out-of-the-box, and that you only needed the driver if you wanted all the fancy stuff.

Thanks.
