New Macbook Air and Windows XP

Hi guys, so my old Dell laptop is literally falling to pieces and it needs replacing. Unfortunately I have software I use for my business (car diagnostic) that only runs on Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6. Compatibility mode, virtualisation etc. just won't do - it has to be XP.

I'm really liking the 13" Macbook Air, it's beautifully built and nice to use.

Question is - can I get rid of OSX and just use XP?

Personally I would stay clear of apple unless there is 1 feature you cannot live without.

With Apple you pay a huge premium over other companies for the name alone and for the same price as a mac book air you can get a laptop from Asus that outperforms it by quite a large margin and you will be able to put XP on if you wish.

The mac book air only has a duel core i5 @ 1.40GHZ with built in HD graphics *Sub par compared to the Asus offering* with 4GB memory and 128GB storage, again for the price your paying this is stupidly overpriced and sub par.

For exactly the same price as the Apple thing you can get a 15" Asus laptop with a Core i7 @ 2.40GHZ, 12GB memory, A 1000GB storage drive, DVD drive, An Nvidia GTX 850 with 2GB of VRAM, Wifi, Bluetooth, And a webcam all built in.

Thanks for the reply, you might be right, but I am pretty taken with the aesthetic and build quality.

No I know I'm right, Not meaning to sound nasty here bud but buying Apple is a really bad move.

The Asus laptop I just linked for you outperforms the mac book air by quite a huge margin and if you wanted the same thing but with an "Apple" sticker on you would be paying on average 25%+ more for the exact same thing all because it has the Apple logo on it.

MB Air build quality is average. XPS13 is next level, shame they are all touch screen now but when specced right they are awesome. Unless you need it to be portable though get something bigger it will be much cheaper and more serviceable/upgradeable in the long run.

My brother has the 13" mac book air and it feels very very average of the price, His fiance has the predecessor to the laptop I linked above and the Asus laptop blows the macbook air out of the water, Feels solidly built and comes in at the same price.

Again, Apple products are cheaply made, Sell at a HUGE premium and don't perform as well as their Laptop/PC counterparts.

Apple is simply for people that don't know any better.

May I jump in and say apple is absolute garbage. They make average products and charge an arm, leg, and testicle for them. I'd steer way clear of apple.

I'm sorry by getting a little off topic, but i hear a lot of blablabla that Apple is better for graphical work and stuff, i do publicity at school.. Is this true or non true? I still believe thats not by the same reason given here, that for the price they sell, the counterparts perfom better for less.

Not really. Theres no reason you cant get a PC (laptop) with specs like in an Apple laptop.

No. and also why not buy a better windows laptop for the same price and put os x on it? (hackingtosh)

Wow.

But will it run XP tho?

Get a normal laptop i.e Asus, MSI etc... and you can format it to run anything you want, If you don't mind literally and blindly throwing your money away for a product that is very underpowered and crap then by all means go Apple.

I'll say it again just in case you missed it, Apple products are very cheaply made, With a high price tag for the people that don't know anything about computers and blindly buy the most expensive thing and find out afterwards they completely overpaid for a hipster product that is crap.

Avoid Apple like the plague if you have any sort of brain on your shoulders.

I'll break it down a little bit more for you

Asus = high end powerful hardware fo a decent price with the ability to put any OS you want on it.

Apple = Low to mid end hardware with stupidly high price tag and for anything in the high end you pay through the nose

But say if I do decide to literally and blindly throw my money away on cheaply built crap cos I'm a hipster and I like the shiny-shiny...

Will it run XP? :D

Well I can see I'm talking to a brick wall here, In the hope of maybe getting through to you I'll break it down some more.

Apple products are underpowered, Locked down and cheap pieces of crap with an insane price tag for people that have no idea about computers.

An Asus laptop or even an Acer, Msi, Aurorus etc..., Powerful, The same price or cheaper than an Apple macbook air, Bigger screen, Higher resolution, And a butt load more powerful hardware.

Any of that sinking in yet ?

The short answer.. NO , Apple just like Dell and HP used to do, they bork the Bios so that it's such a nightmare to install anything other than the original OS it's simply not worth the hassle.

I would also add that I have had a Macbook Air and in all honesty, it was OK but that's all it was (just OK), no match for a real laptop. I'd never tell anyone what to do with their money, but I'd advise against Apple products they are just to high a premium for the hardware you actually get.

Too high a premium is putting it lightly, They suck donkey dick plain and simple ^_^
