hi all

after been quoted 150+ to even look at getting my last laptop fixed i think it is shopping time. prior is only valued at £300 ish now.

the new laptop is going to be doing a bit of everything really.

i need it to cope with all the usual, tinternet, mail but that is hardly taxing.

i do need it to be able to edit and manipulate high res photos and do some video editing but this is fairly low res stuff. the 1.5 dual core Amilo coped fine with this.

for the trips i would like it to be able to play films well, preferably blu ray too, and the ability to cope with say call of duty 4.

i do not want to go down the route of specific gaming or 17+'' multimedia laptops.

i have found this Sony model that does seem to tick all my boxes.

for the price point it does do well and it should be a good quality product.

i have had bad experiences with Acer and Asus and the Fujitsu Siemens has died 2 months out of the year warranty.

any other products i should be looking at.

plus that is my sort of max budget .... £500 - 550

looking for a laptop for my sister atm, is that sony in that price range?

just, the lowest i can find is £555

i know the blu ray drive is the killer on the cost.

maybe i should be looking at getting a standard dvd drive and upping it once the blu ray drive prices come down from the heavens!!

555GBP :o That's absolutely ace for such a res and a bluray drive. I believe that lappie (with dedicated gpu without bluray though) was €880 over here in the NL.

For just office/internet use you might want to look at 13.3" models to help keep your back in one piece. You should be able to get a 13.3" @ 1280*xxxx and intel 4500HD 'gpu' for a reasonable price.
