hi, i was going to upgrade my gf's pc and mine. she would get my cpu, gpu and psu. and i would get new faster bits etc. this would cost me around £500. but i have now decided to give her my pc (asus 970 mobo, phenom x2 550 @3.7 on air and a 5770) i need it for games, research has told me to buy a 2500k system, i have no problem with this however i do not understand how the intel mobo system works, what socket to get or what chipset. i will be pairing up with a £200 gpu when i have decided what gpu to get. (waiting on 7xxx pricing). i will be building fulll system and need some serious help. i dont want to spend more than £700 on hardware. but if it gets me a better system than my old amd system(which worked pretty well to be honest)then i think it will be worth it

I'd go with a Gen 3 Z68 motherboard if I were building right now. The 2500k uses the 1155 socket. There are quite a few chipsets that will work with the 2500k, but you will be looking at P67 or Z68 on the enthusiast side with Z68 being the latest.

ok, now dont tell me missus, but i have just ordered the bitfenix shinobi black windowed, asrock extreme 3 gen 3, 8gb of 1600 mhz hyperx ram and a ocz modxstream psu, im gonna leave the 2500k and the nhd14 for now, just let the funds build a little,. oh yeh. still need that darn gpu

ok, had a little think, i was gonna get a 600 watt. but lets say i get a 560 ti, would a 600 watt be able to power 2x560ti in sli as well as the i5 overclocked? and if not, do i need more than 700 watt? and if i do how much is this gonna cost to run with a 700+ watt psu

i understand that i shouldnt try and skimp on the psu,. but other than being modular what does the hx do that the tx 750 doesnt apart from being £25 more expensive, and bearing in mind that the modxstream was going to cost me £60

crap. i couldnt wait till next week, i have now ordered the cpu and nhd-14.... £500 into a pc i wont have a decent gpu untill sometime in feb... oh well, at least i will have time to get some more overtime in to pay for it, the money i spent today was suposed to go towards a new car lol, sod it, keep the old banger and have a good pc

Hahaha, that is awesome. At least you spend the £500 on something worthwhile

I was going to suggest waiting a couple of months or so for ivybridge to be released and the rest of the 7xxx series to also show their hand, but you've already got some great parts there, so good luck with the build and it should be considerably better than your old rig
