New HDD recommendations?

I've been getting some issues from my seagate barracuda lately and its write speeds have gone downhill so i'm looking at possibly a new drive in new future.
I want to get a good quality 2tb drive but not to an extent im paying rediculous amounts of money. i use my E drive primarily to record directly onto with dxtory/fraps, and then render the videos to the drive in sony vegas. so this means alot of data being written to the drive.
What drive would suit my needs best? i was thinking western digital, however i dont know anything about the difference in their range of drives. apparently reds are for RAID usage? the rest i have no idea.

Ive always had good luck out of Western Digital's drives. Ive been using them since 2001 and have only had 1 DOA. I still have the 80GB WD from 2001 and it still works so I usually recommend their stuff. Thats not to say Seagate is junk. Ive used them in builds for friends before and theyve never had any problems.

I've had multiple seagate barracudas and would say theyre a great all round affordable card.
I've heard from some people that WD has dropped their quality in recent years, people who've had a drive for 10+ years like you complaining about their new WD drive not living up to their expectation.

The page linked supposed to explain the different hard drives mostly is marketing babble. i'd prefer to hear what the different drives are specialised for in factual terms. i was able to gather that blue is the budget, and black is the high end.

Its about $170 for wd black vs wd green or seagate $100
The price isnt too bad, but trying to decide if its justified.

Like I said, there isnt necessarily wrong with Seagate and Id have no problem running them. If you can get one at a really good price, then by all means go for it.

I'd recommend WD drives too. I've had all of the colours for various purposes. One WD green was DOA and all the others are still working flawlessly.

WD Green is great for a storage or backup drive, energy efficient and large capacity for cheap. For regular use the response time is slow since the head gets parked but transfer speed once it wakes up is fine.

WD Black is simply the performance drive of choice. Comes is decent capacities but pricey.

WD Red is a server drive. Performance is below the black but it is designed for constant access by multiple users 24/7 so it's not slow and is highly reliable. Cheaper than Black but more expensive than Green.

WD Blue is you basic drive and is cheap as chips. If nothing above stands out for you then get this but I think it doesn't offer the capacity you need.

An interesting option for you would be one of the soon-to-be-released WD purple drives. They are designed for video capture (security surveillance so it is marketed). Anyway if all you are going to do is read and write video on to it a lot then these drives are designed to be constantly working unlike most drives which are designed to be switching on and off. Looks pretty decent on the wallet too. Also has a 3 year warranty same as the Reds which is a bonus.

If it were me I'd look at the WD Purple.

Well changing the sata cable has seemed to get rid of my gremlins for a good 24+ hours without issue, so i think its safe to say the issue with my drive is resolved for now mostly, wonder if transfer rates improved...
anyhow, next time i need a new hard drive ill go WD black. maybe when i do my much anticipated overbuild in the distant future
