I was wondering, if it would be ok to save some money and buy a PCI XFX nVidia GeForce 6800 ULTRA, what are the major differences for the AGP ones, I know speed but does that really matter, I need it because its cheap and I just want something that will play some decent games, such as CSS, and some new games that will be arriving soon. Thanks for all the input, I'm looking forward to all the info ~Justin

personally i wouldnt get a pci graphic card if you would want any type of pci it should be pci - express, i think AGP would be more appropriate, but dont take my word for it i only have a agp i have had limited experience with pci gfx

I do believe that JNewell is referring to PCI-E, hg007..... as they don't make pci versions of the Nvidia 6800 Ultra :)

In answer to your question JNewell, if that's the best card you can afford on your budget then by all means. Do you have a maximum amount that you want to spend? I would probably steer you in the direction of a 6800GT (or X800 pro) though as they are overclockable to Ultra speeds and play all the current games. Just have a bit more of a look around, I'm sure you'll find something suitable. If you can put the max amount you want to spend, here, then we'll all have a bit of a scout around for you.

Cheers-PV

If you want something that is more future-proof then buy an SLi motherboard (DFI LANPARTY SLI-D) and a PCI-E vid card (6800 U or 7800GTX). The 7800 series is out in a few days time and you can get one then. They will be expensive though ;)

as far as i know jnewell you dont have a pcie motherboard, so your choice is limited to AGP. a 6800gt will be the best thing to save for, then go pcie when you do your next major upgrade.

And sorry to counter you PV! But I would advise against an X800 Pro as it has 12 pipes whereas a simarly priced X800XL (which was released to go against the 6800GT aswell) has 16 pipes.

If you have the money.. for sure! Get the 6800 Ultra (or X850XT PE) :D

Ooops my bad, thanks for the correction Austin. The X800XL is definitely the better of the cheaper options :)
