Hey Guys,

I'm looking to buy a replacement card i think the current graphics card i have can't really keep up atm i'm using a EVGA GTX 760 2GB but i have read on some forums that a card with more v-ram would be better for modded skyrim i would like to get a 4GB card.

I don't really want to go with AMD i have heard that AMD cards don't really work that good compare to nvidia i was looking to see if i could get a ASUS GTX770 4GB but hardly any places don't have this card anymore is this card a EOL.

Just want to get some advice if there is any people on this forum play modded skyrim btw my budget is about $500 AUD.

Thank you all.

Screwing yourself over by not getting an AMD card. It seems that the only other option for you around that price range would Be an AMD 290. the 290 has 4gb vram and significantly more grunt.

Ok do you know how hot the 290 would run and is the ASUS one is good as in cooling, but isn't there issue using a AMD card with a modded skyrim or is that only to do with crossfire

Don't know who keeps telling you that AMD are horrid but they need to drop their fanboyism. My 7950 has zero issues with a modded skyrim and i run at max settings, not a hard game to run tbh. When Skyrim first came out it had issues with Crossfire and SLI, but why do you care if you are only going to run one card lol?

The 290 needs the best cooler it can get. Really only 3 sensible options(excluding the lightning since it costs a lot) for the 290: Sapphire Tri-X, Powercolor PCS+, and the Royal Club 3D Royal Ace. The best aircoolers out right now.

Well the 3 choice you gave me the problem is i can only get 1 of them which is the Sapphire one and then that makes another problem its not going to match the colour of my build. imo i really only have 1 choice which is the ASUS, i also should have said i may end up doing some video encoding aswell, also with the Sapphire Tri-X card i don't really like it cause it doesn't have a back plate.

Thanks

The Asus card is terrible. Doesn't cool well. You can always buy a backplate as well. If you can find 290 Toxic version its a Tri-x card but slightly higher clocked and a light blue color instead of the yellow orange color. IMO for just one game its hardly worth being nitpicky on color aesthetics and sacrificing performance when you could get a better card that has slightly less appeal to you. You can even paint it if you wanted. You will only see the top part since it lies facedown/sideways.

In the end it's your choice. I can only give my advice and what i would do, hope it helps.

Would that apply to the ASUS GTX780, but i have said now that there might end up being some video encoding (uploading to youtube), i'm not sure if i should mix hardware or just have everything through 1 company like the motherboard & video card.

The GTX 780 has less vram which is important to you with your modded skyrim. The asus cooler is good on the 780 though. Mixing brands doesn't do anything. Should be based off whats the best value for money/price to performance. Generally speaking a 290 usually edges out the 780 but the 780 does pull ahead depending on the game. Honestly the 780 is not worth it compared to the 290 as its more expensive and just as fast if the pricing in Aus is similar to the US.

The person above has been giving you great advise, however you just keep shoving it back at them with more excuses, if you love Nvidia so much then go get the GTX 780 and stop complaining about wanting more vram, otherwise either get the expensive and overpriced as hell 6GB version from Nvidia, that still uses the crappy 384-bit bus.

The MSI R9 290 gaming edition from PcCaseGear @$469 will do what you want NO Problem!

Ok but now i'm not the greatest fan of MSI anymore after the issues i was having with the motherboard. the MSI one doesn't have a full back plate compare to the ASUS one, I know people are saying to me to stay away from the ASUS one but i just keep coming back to the ASUS maybe i'm just to fussy for my own good

Thanks for the advice

The ASUS one dumps heat into your side panel, I hope you're running a decent cooling setup. :P

Well tbh i have now seen anything like that in the reviews i have been looking atm

That asus cooler does a very good job BUT ONLY if your case has good cooling, otherwise the stock blower cooler could actually perform better if the airflow inside your case is very poor. what is your case and what fans do you have?

I'm using a Corsair 750D and Corsair Air Series AF140

Thanks for the advice
