Hey guys,

It's got to the point where my current pc is around 3-4 years old and I've figured it's time for an upgrade. I've got around $2500AUD to play with and this is the build i've come up with so far.

Intel Core i7 4790K
NZXT Kraken X61 280mm AIO Liquid CPU Cooler
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard
MSI GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4GB
Corsair Graphite 780T Black Full Tower Case
Corsair RM-650 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
Kingston Hyper X Fury 16GB (2x8GB) Red
Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD
Samsung 840EVO 120GB SSD
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

http://www.pccasegear.com/sc/ARs here's my cart. pretty much the cheapest place i can order from

any suggestions would be much appreciated.

As above, downgrade the CPU to the i5 variant instead. You can leave the Ram as it is if you want, however again as above your not really going to be needing that much.

Next change PSU to this:
https://www.centrecom.com.au/xfx-proseries-1250w-psu-full-modular-gold

Change OS to something like win 8.1, it costs the same as the win 7 HP you are getting.

Change SSD: https://www.centrecom.com.au/samsung-840-evo-series-120gb-ssd

Change Motherboard: http://www.mwave.com.au/product/msi-z97-gaming-3-intel-lga-1150-atx-motherboard-ab54885

Change CPU: https://www.centrecom.com.au/intel-...uad-core-350ghz-39ghz-turbo-6mb-cache-lga1150

The above changes are just recommendations, Centrecom has great shipping rates though and I usually go to them for parts unless they dont have what I need.

Oh and one last thing, why not just get 2 970's instead? As they are at the moment, they are excellent value. I think they are even going for about $400 right now.

He does NOT need a 1250W PSU! The SSD is the same as he chose, no? The motherboard is alright, but if he wants the gaming 5 and he can afford it, thats up to him. As for the CPU, I agree with you.

The ONLY reason I suggested the PSU was because it is of better quality then the 650W RM and is only going to be at most $40 extra, he OBVIOUSLY doesnt need a 1250W, but if its better quality and can last through ANY upgrade, then why not.

Also the SSD is cheaper there and the only reason I linked it was so that the OP can consider ordering it along with the PSU, not to mention Centrecom pretty much always gives some really nice discounts.

didnt you read the part in my post that they are just recommendations for the OP to consider, it is by no means telling the OP to get it.

It seems to be a generic response for me but I would drop the processor and memory down to an i5 and 8GB and spend the money saved on a bigger SSD, 240GB minimum and higher if you can. The slowest thing about an SSD is when your sitting around deciding IF you really have enough space to install another game on it, meanwhile someone with a bigger SSD is just installing the next game already. 120GB will only leave you enough room for the OS, a very small amount of programs and maybe 3-4 games and after that point you will have to be a data nazi to avoid filling it up. ^_^

Wow just realized the budget was 2500, OP could even get themself a 500GB SSD with the remaining funds. If the OP were to make some changes.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. This is the first time i've ever heard of Centrecom so I'll have to check them out. From what I saw tho, a lot of the items I want are in-store only, and i'm in Qld, not Vic. It may be worthwhile to order a few parts from them and the rest from PCCG tho.

As far as windows goes, it wasn't really a cost issue, I've just not heard many positive things about windows 8, whereas I quite like windows 7.

That psu is definitely overkill for my needs, but it seems like it's amazing value and is definitely intriguing especially for futureproofing.

I suppose more SSD space may be nice, but I don't generally play a lot of games at the same time. 3-4 on the drive at the same time seems fine to me.

With the money I would save downgrading the CPU and ram I was very much considering changing to a Maximus VII Formula motherboard, entirely for aesthetic reasons. I think the board looks amazing, even if it's definitely overpriced.

I don't plan on rushing into any purchases. I'll take some time and consider my options that's for sure. Keep the advice coming :)

Hey OP,

The reason why I recommended that you consider windows 8.1 instead is because they are already beginning to phase out windows 7 so you would end up having limited support in future. I believe PCCG has the 8.1 licences for the same price as your win 7 HP, though I remember getting it for about $85.

Also most of the issues you are hearing about windows 8 are likely fixed now in the 8.1 update. I myself still like windows 7 as well for the live background instead of having to use VLC and put it on a loop ;)
