New folding rig - what motherboard?

Looking to build a rig for the wife within the next month or so, will be huge overkill for her as all she does is web browse. Needless to say, it will be folding 24/7.

Have a few parts already picked out:

HAF 912

Corsair HX750

4GB Mushkin Blackline 1600 (I can't find Redline Ridgeback anywhere in the US)

WD Black 640GB

Either 2500k or 2600k depending on how much I can swing for budget

Either a GTX460 or GTX560, again depending on budget

Noctua NH-D14

As far as the board goes, I'm looking for P67 B3 of course. I won't be using SLI, but I'd like the option to add another card down the line. I usually go with Gigabyte, but they don't have any P67 SLI boards on Newegg. I'd like to stay around the $150 mark.

MSI have a few boards that fit the bill, but I haven't been a fan of their boards.

Any recommendations? I'll be buying from Newegg.com
 
If you want to OC get at the least the Asus P8P67 PRO or Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4, the lower models aren't that good for overclocking. I don't know about the MSI boards apart from the Big Bang Marshall but MSI P67A-GD65 is meant to be a good board from what i have read.
 
The GB UD4 looks good. Only about $50 more too. Can't find it anywhere other than Microcenter though and it's pickup only. Their nearest store is about 8 hours from me. I'll keep an eye out though. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to order there is more availability. Are all the boards now B3 revisions?
 
I think all boards are now B3, over here in the UK there was listings for B2 and B3 but now, on Aria, they are only listing B3 boards. Because not all boards are affected there might be B2 ones floating around so make sure it says it's a B3 before you buy.
 
I think I've settled on the UD4. Now I need to find a good shop to buy the 2600k from. MC has it for $279 but in-store only. Every other place seems to be around $330. I know some people in the Detroit area, I may try having them do a run for me.
 
Worth saving some money,and buy a better gpu

I am building a similar rig right now but its for photography and myself XD. I settled on the 2500k because I couldnt justify the extra 100$ price boost for what I am using it for, but its worth it for some.

I picked up my 2500k from a microcenter as well, I live in Holland Michigan and so the closest microcenter to me is in detroit as well. I have family in cleveland ohio though who live less then 8 miles from one so I had them pick one up for me and the next time I visited them I picked it up. The one thing I want to caution you on is tax. though my 2500k was $180 from microcenter it ended up being closer to 195-200 because of taxes. This is ok because I still saved around 20$ and shipping costs. But this might make you rethink if its worth it for you to get it from microcenter. Not trying to stop you just wanted to let you know.

Either way you will have a nice rig there, I am jealous of your wife hah. My girlfriend is content with her apple and as long as it lasts her more then 3 years I am ok with that.

That's the Microcenter in MI I was referring to, I live up in the UP. I'd end up saving $30 or so. My wife is planning a trip to visit some friends in May, but I doubt I can wait that long. I plan on doing the build in April some time. Need to paint the den first, then finish my desk so I can build. Still have a box of watercooling gear sitting around too! This honey-do list is killing me.

I talked to her about it last night and she wasn't too keen on building a top rig until I told her that she's used to my rig. She doesn't want something slower than she's used to

. A 460/560 and a 2600k will be way overkill for her photography needs, but it should be perfect for my folding needs

Bulldozer is in 2 months but I dont think AMD is going to be putting out any thing that will be able to top that of the current SB systems. They will probably have some good lower end products though bu again your folding so no reason to wait for that.

The only other possible thing oyu could be wait for are the Z series mobos or ivy bridge. Z boards come out in April and they wont be any thing special really at all. Ivy bridge isnt coming out till october and that is the earliest at best, will probably be pushed back closer to december.
 
What's main difference with the Z series boards? Just integrated SATA3? Anything else that would be worth the wait? Bulldozer doesn't look like it's worth waiting for and my 1366 rig will be overhauled probably early next year with a 2011 chip.
 
The main difference is that the z68 chipset supports both the IGP and overclocking. As you will be getting a videocard, there is in my opinion nothing to gain out of an z68 chipset.

So you are suggesting wait 2 months for an inferior product that is marketed at lower end systems, and then suggesting a product that is for the top percentile of consumers (1 grand for a cpu) that doesnt come out for another 6+months...

I would say his main options are SB and may be a the 1100T from AMD and even that will not touch an i5-2500k in processing power.

I thought Ivy Bridge was the new 1356 socket? Ok, my bad.

And i know bulldozer will be pricey but they may release low binned chips for a more affordable price. Like how the 1100t is way more expensive than the 1055t despite being the same chip. There could be a £800 top end bulldozer and a £400 low end bulldozer for all we know

it's the other way around

LGA2011 (Ivy bridge) will be the new 1366 (i.e. enthusiast) platform. Bulldozer will probably be more of a budget system like sandy bridge is. Or atleast that is what I understand to be preolt's statement.

The new bulldozer line up should outperform the 990x as it will have better hyperthreading (possibly 22nm too?). How many cores will probably depend on the model
