New Build Help!

Just would like to first say Hi to everyone on this forum this is my first post. My names Nadeem and am from Slough, UK. I thought I'd do a little Introduction in this section and since I need help for my new build as well I'd do the two together.

In the past I have built a system but really messed it up to be honest i don’t want to go into details but lets say it was a overkill on some parts in other words it was not a balanced system.
So know it’s been over a year since I had a PC desktop and am ready to build again. The build will mostly be used for gaming i will be doing some Photoshop and Video rendering not a lot but defiantly some. I would like to point out this build will be water cooled and I have the water cooling parts already since I have done custom water cooling setups for friends of mine in the past. My budget well it’s around about £4000 (yes that’s all that saving I have done for a year.:)) but at the same time I don’t need a overkill build but at the same time it has to be kinda good enough to handle the latest games with ease and that to on the highest settings.
So I would really appreciate it if you could please advice me on the following.

PC Case:
Power Supply:
PC Monitor:
Motherboard:
CPU:
GPU Sli Or Crossfire:
Memory Ram (& how much):
SSD/HDD:

cpu i7 3930k £450
Motherboard asus rampage iv extreme £320
psu corsair hx 1050w £170
GPU gtx 680 4GB £480 or sli £960
Ram 16gb 2133mhz mushkin ram x2 (32gb total) £220 any higher frequency doesn't really work on sandy.

sli 680's if you wish, 4gb of ram ensures futureproofing. cases are a matter of preference as are waterblocks so im not suggesting any as for that money you can use pretty much anything. add storage that suits your needs, ssd boot/games drive with mechanical drive/s for storage and backup.
32gb ram is super overkill in this but if the money is there why not, 16gb is still excessive.

sum total so far is approx £1640-£2,120 depending on whether you sli the 680's you still need a case, watercooling stuff and storage.

^ Way way overkill :L He says its a gaming build with maybe some light photoshop.

Since you have the money, 3770k, MSI Z77A GD65, GTX 670(2 if you wish), Corasir AX 750 , 16gb Of Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz, Case = personal choice

my suggested build is super crazy overkill, if you dont want to spend your budget get a 3770k and a z77 board as suggested above with 8gb-16gb of ram and drop the gpu down to a gtx 670 or hd 7950 and sli or crossfire if need be and for that a 7-850w psu will more than suffice.

^This entirely. When i build a PC i always ask myself one thing: Even though i have X amount of money to spend how much do i exactly need to spend? The above build is perfect, then save the rest of your money and buy, i dunno a car or something

Thanks for the replies really appreciate it. So a Z77 motherboard would be good? but I see this board only supports dual memory channel I mean is there a difference in dual memory channel Vs a quad memory channel? (Which only a X79 board supports.)

For gaming and a bit of photoshop/rendering etc Z77 is definitely the chipset to be on, What I suggested is basically the premium Z77 specs

So have you decided on specs?
Yes am about 80% sure I want to go for the Z77 motherboard. But I would like to clear something which I should have made clear first. The thing is I go for weeks without doing any photoshop or video editing/rendering but when I do I really do then to the extreme if you know what I mean. :) It's just that I want to be 100% sure this Z77 board will handle this when it comes to photo/video editing? In the past I have had a top spec PC even then I didn't do much photo/video editing but when I did I knew my PC would handle it with ease. I think it's just a peace of mind thing knowing you have a powerful PC that will handle anything you throw at it even if it's once in a blue moon. :)

well an ivy bridge i7 would be better at video rendering in a program like sony vegas as you can clock the core speed higher. Something that TTL has mentioned a fair few times. Photo editing wise the core speed paired up with the 16GB of RAM would be more than okay so imo go with the build seumasbeathan suggested, it seems solid to me :)

How is the MSI Z77A GD65 motherboard like? does it overclock well? & how is it compare to the ASUS Maximus V Extreme? I really like this motherboard but don't know if it will be a overkill since it's the best Z77 board out there.

Yea its a great board although even the g45 would do you. The z77 chip set is a great overclocker. You'll be chip and cooler limiting before any Mobo.

The GD65 is a fantastic board and IMO there is no reason what so ever to spend any extra

Thanks for that you also the 16gb Of Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz I have seen the 16gb Of Corsair Vengeance but 2666mhz ? if I get this will it put more stress on the cpu and can I even get 2666mhz?

Let's not go crazy!

When I render HD video I use an overclocked i5 with a whole 32gb of RAM available running at 1600MHz.

It takes 2 hours to render a 2 hour film in MPEG 1080P quality which produces a file 10-15gb in size. I never use more than 4gb of RAM and my CPU isn't working all that hard either because I believe the whole process is bottlenecked by my hardrive which is feeding the data.

Get yourself 8gb of 1600, or even 1866MHz RAM and it will be more than enough for your uses.
