New Build Gamers Rig

Hi All

Been an electronic enginner for some time now,but never stumped up the courage to build my own rig, until now, and this is where I get stumped,I need help and advice, I would like to attempt something special rig for myself.

My budget is about £1000, and say £200 for any additions that might occur.

I would like to build a serious game rig, duel graphics card and 5.1 surround, but my knowledge is lame when it comes to whats hot and whats not.

I also would like a rather special case, with some sort of lighting system, I feel its time to go pro and I dont want to go into PCWorld ever again..

So any suggestions or tips to what I need,I dont know anything about water cooling rigs, can I get the required cooling from the good old fashioned fan system, I would be so nervous of a water cooling system, been at work and thinking "what if it leaks"...

well thanks for reading my thread and look forward to your input and help.

Gabe

sit down and write out a nice list of the specs you need, and also think about how long you want this system to last you

post the list on here - and we will help you out as much as we can

there are a few "fan-boys" on here - but all-in-all, we are a great bunch who like nothing better than squeezing every volt/amp/watt of power out of our custom rigs.

what do you want it for? gaming, business, or for the shear enthusiasm of having an awesomely modded sheeeet-of-a-shovel fast PC that friends will say WTF, and be jealous as hell!

lol

Hi DugD

"what do you want it for? gaming, business, or for the shear enthusiasm of having an awesomely modded sheeeet-of-a-shovel fast PC that friends will say WTF, and be jealous as hell!"

Damn Yes...lol

Been thinking about the specs for a while, and my budget was wrong its £1500 plus £200 for oversights,ok looking at something along these lines, for my gamers rig.

Min 8 GB Ram DDR3

Duel Graphics card (not sure which one ATI OR GEFORCE so many conflicting reviews?)I will be useing a 42"LCD tv as a monitor

AMD CPU (no idea whats best)

5.1 sound card (need a digital out)

PSU that will cope

2 Sata drives 1TB plus a 500 GB slave for backups etc

The relevent cooling system (prefer fans)

Win 7 64 bit OS

I am blind in the PC parts world, trying my best to learn, but so much info out there, now give me a defibrillator to strip and build then I can do that in my sleep, but pc hardware is a minefield to me.

Thanks for the link Qubo.

Thanks for your help

look here: http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Bundles/

OC3D and Aria are the best of friends

it will give you a guide to what is out there. you would just need a nice windowed case, (to show off your lighting), an 850W PSU, some 1TB HDDs, an optical drive, mouse, keyboard, OS and monitor.

so... work out the price of everything that you like that is NOT in the bundles but required, and that will leave you with the budget you have left for the bundle

i suggest you leave the fancy lighting for after the build.

if you like fancy lighting - look at the YING RIG link in my sig

Thanks for your input DugD, I will do that, going to kick back with a JD and a note book and take your advice.

I really need to get to grips with the hardware, Now thats light system, would love something similar as my game room has my aquarium in and that light system would just blend perfect.

Can I ask will the light system stem its power direct from the PSU or will it run from another source.

Thanks again, will report back.

Thanks for the help so far guys, ok made a start on spec.

So tired of having low spec crap rigs, so going to try and get the best for my money, following Dugd advice I have made a start with the following bundle:

Gladiator Core i7 950 Premium Black Edition Pre-Built Overclocked Bundle

• Intel® Core™ i7-950 Overclocked @ 4.20GHz - Eight Thread CPU

• Mushkin 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz 6-8-6-24 Redline Ridgeback

• EVGA X58 Classified3 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard

• Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced CPU Cooler

• Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

• Pre-Assembled & Tested

I have also taken a shine to this case:

Corsair Obsidian 800D Black Tower Computer Case

Now I enter the minefield of Graphics cards, I would like a dual card system, anyone got any suggestions, my budget after getting the above is now down to £550 plus £200 oversight.

Thanks again

Gabe

STUNNED at the price, maybe the dual card was not a good thought....lol, thanks for the info, will read up. still need HDs,cooling, sound,DVD etc...may go to one Graphics card.

for now a single gtx 570 would be more than enough in my opinion and you can always sli in the future, i think a gtx 560ti would be good aswell, not sure though considering its a 42" TV

and you may want to consider the NZXT phantom, looks stunning and is big enough for any gpu around, also £100 cheaper than the 800D so thats money saved or put to better use

I have the 700D, pretty much the same as a 800D. If you are not watercooling i wouldnt recomend it tbh, as much of a nice case as it is. it really is geared to watercooling

Thanks for the info on the case guys, dont want to go down the water cooling path, not something I would be confident with at the moment, will reconsider the case, dont want to waste cash if I can help it. Many thanks again.

Sorry for double post my error.

2 570s is a good route and will go only slightly into your oversight, I'd recommended an MSI Twin Frozr II OC or Gigabyte OC as these both have decent coolers and stick to 2 slots each unlike the better cooled cards.

Edit: Should've refreshed this page before I posted
