New 1150 rig

Hi guys, I'm currently building a new rig, upgrading to the new 1150 socket from my 1366 i7-960. This is going to be a primarily gaming machine. So I picked up a MSI Z87-GD65 and most of the other parts except for a CPU and RAM. I was originaly thinking of just getting the new i7. After doing some reading about CPUs it looks like I should go for the 4670k i5 over the 4770k i7 if I'm just going to be gaming. As for RAM I'm not sure, if i should just go for 1866 or spend a little more for some 2400.

If you guys can give me some help/advice/opinions on the CPU & RAM selections that'd be great.

Thanks.

i5 4670k will be absolutely fine for gaming.
RAM doesn't make a huge difference in games, so just grab 8GB from Corsair or another brand you trust in a colour that fits in the build

As stated 4670k and some nice ram of your choice and if you don't have one yet an SSD.

Yup, 4670k will perform nearly the same in games as the 4770k (maybe 2-3 fps difference). Any RAM that's 1600MHz or above will be plenty for you. If you get a 2x4GB kit you'll always have the abilty to upgrade to 16GB.

Try to keep the CAS Latencies and voltages low though. Preferably a CL9 kit that runs at 1.5 Volt.

+1 on the SSD.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll go for the i5. I was looking at the Corasir Vengance Pro for the ram and the 1866 is the same price as the 1600, so I'll go with the 1866.

I have a SSD as a boot drive while most of my games and stuff are on a HDD. I'm looking forward to getting 1 or 2 more for games now that my MB has extra Sata III ports.

Get a bigger single SSD over two smaller ones. Less cables, power consumption, management in the OS, and usually faster... no brainer lol:p
