Need to connect laptop to normal tv

Hey

I accidently bought a VGA to component cable..then realising most tvs dont have component...and most vga ports do not output component..great

but anyway, i now need a way of outputting the laptop to a normal tv. this would mean vga to scart (??) or vga to RCA (??)

Unless the TV is PC compatible, then it won't work at all.

Regardless of VGA-Scart/RCA.

This is because the classic TVs run at the res of 640*480 (unless the aspect ration is different).

And windows can't boot into 640*480.

You are screwed my friend. Unless you buy an LCD/Plasma.

So even if i got one of these it would technically fail and i may as well tell the peeps im doing it for that it isnt possible without a HD tv

The PQ would be so bad they as well view on the laptop even if i did get it to work?

Is there any use at all for a composite > vga cable??

Even large screens sometimes run at 700-600 because TVs and monitors use different resolutions. The reason for this is becuase generally you are much closer to a monitor than you are to a TV.

Therefore you would need a plasma or LCD tv.

Notice on how it says HD.

And it is practically the same with the composite cable as LCD/Plasma TVs do support.

right thanks guys

reps

so....in a nutshell...they need a lcd or plasma - and i may as well sell this cable lol. what could one use this cable for??!

thanks, thought that even crt tvs could do it as easy - i guess not

so it would work on a projector then xD

1 more thing

why wont it work on my laptop > hd tv? its basically not outputting - might it be down to my laptop not bein able to output "composite" via the vga port?

Does the laptop have a dedicated GPU?

Or is it just an Intel GPU where outputting is limited to certain things.

And try updating the video drivers regardless of make.

Well mine is an onboard ati one fully up to date

And theres will probably be onboard too (although that doesnt matter, they wont be gettin a new tv just to output laptop to it)

It's probably one of those things where it's not compatible with composite/component normally.

Ah well.

You're screwed out my friend.

Try checking the advanced graphics card settings, usually there's multi-monitor options in there.

I've had a PC running an s-video to composite cable before, didn't look too bad

What TV do you have? My LCD running VGA>VGA looks really small if I run it in a 1024 resolution and quite bad in a low resolution.

I tried that myself but it happens automatically.
