Need some help with 1440p

Hello :) I don't know an awful lot about monitors so sorry if some info is wrong.

I am looking for a new monitor with higher res then 1080p for gaming/movie/editing purposes. after some reading and youtube reviews it looks like the asus PB278Q 2560x1440 is the right choice. ( if you guys know any better or as good at cheaper price, do tell)
I've seen the QNIX QX2710 on amazon and i know its cheaper but i am a sissy when it comes to ordering stuff from manufactors i dont know.

at the moment i use two 1080p monitors with a gtx 690. I play some fps games but i am more of a guy who wants to immerse myself into games like skyrim so color and contrast is important to me. i have always used 60hz so i dont really know what i am missing but i can probably oc the pb278q some..

So if you are still reading my question is, can I use the asus monitor with my 2 current 1080p monitors with a single gtx 690 card?

If I can, can i use full res on the asus?

any tips?

Well for gaming super HD displays are terrible. They just look good. For starters it is IPS so it will naturally have a not so good response time, and second it is 1440p so it will be even worse. I am guessing this display has a 7ms response time at BEST I am more leaning it having around ~10ms, which is terrible for gamers.

All in all this monitor will just make your games look good, but will be more strenuous on the eye over a typical TN panel with a 2ms response time or a 1080p IPS with a 5ms.

Can't see why it wouldn't work.

You could even look into using softTH with all three monitors in Skyrim, though at the cost of details. :-P

KIND_OF_SAND: Nonsense, they're fine for gaming unless you are playing fast paced FPS games at league level.

Clearly you have never played on one then lol. I have a 2560x1600 display and EVERY game after an hour or two fatigues you. I use my ASUS 1080p IPS with a 5ms and can play for much longer. Also statistically they are not very good for gaming.

Good gaming monitors are 5ms and under.

So much false information in one post. *facepalm*

Please elaborate? Have you ever gamed on one? I can tell you from experience... it aint pleasant after about an hour.

You will get headaches from all the ghosting. And unless you are blind or slow, you will see it even moving the mouse across the screen to click an icon. At least I can.

Sorry fella but this is pure bollocks. 99% of people won't notice the difference between 2ms and 10ms. (or even 25ms) This is quite an elitist thing to say.

As someone who is horrendously sensitive to flicker of any kind (apparently noticing flicker and stuff is related to dyslexia (sucks)) and a pretty full-time gamer.. I can tell you that most of what you said in that post isn't true.

You getting exhausted might be more related to the size of the screen rather than response time. I get the same effect with my telly.

The response time is absolutely fine for Enochian's use. Buying TN panels for any other reason than price is silly.

Then they need to lay off the games for a while and get an eye exam lol. at around 10ms I can see my mouse ghost. Hell even at 5ms I can see my tiles in Win8 ghost when I scroll.

Something to consider about response times, at 60fps each frame is displayed for 16.67ms.

hmm.. some mixed replies here :p my two 1080p is 2ms so i wouldnt know how 7 or more looks. the PB278Q is 2560x1440 PLS, 80M:1, 5ms so i guess it doesnt matter that much on the ms..

If it is 5ms then yea it is fantastic. Look I am not saying Super HD displays are bad, I own a Dell 2560x1600 30" and I love it. Granted it's almost 3 years old now it still suffers from slow response time that is noticeable. I use it for my hackintosh and it's a great display when I am setting up network diagrams.

Good :) Some even said they oc upto 75hz but you will loose some color/contrast. But with a single gtx 690 card do you think i could use two 1080p and one 1440p without any problems?

Depends on what you are doing. My 560ti can run my 2 1080p displays, a 1440x900 AND my 2560x1600 just fine. Just keep in mind your 690 is only 2gb of usable memory not 4gb. The larger the resolution the more memory will be needed.

Yeah, i should have waited and bought the titan instead.. i was thinking that i would be using the 1440p for games and movies etc and the 1080p's for browsing and just more space..

So you were describing gaming on a wide-gamut display as opposed to a 27" 1440p monitor?

Shouldn't be much of an issue with most games, but you mentioned Skyrim. Modded Skyrim can be incredibly VRAM hungry.

Response time is response time, it makes no difference what it is being done on. The fact of the matter is ghosting can cause headaches and can make games look ugly. Again at 10ms I notice a mouse curser ghosting.

While playing what?

Never had this issue, again, as someone hugely sensitive to this I'd expect to feel it worse. I'd be surprised if the OP would be bothered by this.

FYI SLi has some funny business with what it allows you to use monitor wise. I know the 5 series only allows 2 screens, with 3 it forces you into nVidia Surround mode.

I'm not sure if this works with the 690 single card?

I noticed bad ghosting in BF3, Diablo 3, StarCraft 2, Mass Effect 2, Skyrim, and even some movies. iRobot being the most noticeable.
