So guys, my headphones are falling apart and i was looking at some sennheiser products, HD518 namely.

Now I don't really know much at all about headphones and was wondering what makes one set better than another?

Other than comfortability and other cosmetic things.

My current headphones are Steelseries Siberia originals or "icemat" and i was wondering how much of an upgrade if at all would the sennheisers be over these?

(PART 2)

I'm also at a bit of a loss as to what would be good for me. I have a $100-180 budget (Australian Dollars ~50-90 pounds i think). I'd like them to be predominately good for music but i will also be playing a couple of games, BF3 & WoW.

The music i listen to is mainly stuff like this http://soundcloud.co...-256-26-02-2012 30sec to 3min 30sec mark for example. I however also listen to some synth pop, metal, hardstyle, and symphonic/orchestral ( strongest point start to build at 4:30)

Should also mention that i'm going to be using them mostly at home but i would also like to be able to use them when flying or studying in the library.

thanks for all help provided.

I personally rate AKG. I use a set of K701s, best headphones ever as far as im concerned. If someone recommends anythings with Dr.Dre headphones, take my advice that there overpriced for what they are. VERY overpriced. Your paying for design / branding really.

For what you want to do, Something like the K518s are in your price range, on ear if thats a problem for you, so may leak noise :L

Skull candy are good headphones as well in that price point, but there very brittle and break easily.

For your musical taste something with good mid range (Look for large drivers, 40mm+) and bass will serve you best. Don't buy budget too, as you will end up buying a better set in the future and probably shelling out what you paid again.

In my opinion your better off saving some more and buying one good set of headphones that will last you. I recommend a set of K142's if your looking to pay sensible money.

I'd go for the Shure 440's out of those. The M-50 were too boring for me...Beyerdynamic and Grado are my favourites. Sr80's are awesome headphones.

Actually some of the "Skull Candy" range are worth a look.
