I decided to rebuild my currently power/noise/heat hungry server. I'm going to make use of the mini-itx form factor as theres been an explosion in the amount of motherboards on the market in the past year or so.

Anyways, onto the specs;

  • Case: Chenbro ES34069 (mini-itx, 4 hot swap sata bays) Full Spec Have
  • Motherboard: Commell LV-676 (6 sata's, 2 ddr2 slots) Full Spec Have
  • CPU: C2D E6300 Have
  • Ram: 2GB DDR667 Have
  • OS: Windows Home Server Have

I'll post some pics when i get my camera back and the rest of the parts arrive, On a side note, money wasnt an issue.

Well, its all up and running, again i'll post some pics when i get my camera back.

nice and on a hdd note aria are kicking out 500g for around 60

(gonna get 2 next week frickin server is full again :( )

1 thing why home server ?? -- it wont use the C2D or 2G

Xp + utorrent //Linux + Ktorrent == a much more interesting RSS automated server ;)

and the ability 2 run game servers is always a plus

it will run c2d and it will run with 2gb, its based on server 2003.

I'm developing some add-ons for it. Also nothing compares to the backups it does.

EDIT: gone for a c2d as i'll be doing some converting on it, also 2GB of ram as im might hack exchange to work on it.

As soon as my sister gets from her holidays as she has my camera. Real nice of her to ask to borrow it when she already around the other side of the world.

Mmmm.... :(

What led wires didn't get used in your build? ie: Lan1, Lan2, Mute

Did you run a raid 5 setup?

a fair few didnt get used. both LANs, Mute and maybe some others of the top of my head. I'm not running any raids as im running windows home server and it doesnt support them.

Nice Spec

Whats the noise level like with those dual 70mm fans? And ambient temps in the case?

Post pics soon....

noise is pretty low. Not sure about the ambient temps, but the cpu is at around 50c. Pretty warm if you ask me. This is using chenbro's heatsink and paste. So im sure i could get better results.

Quiet enough for a living room? Been thinking of one of these under my TV as a media library....
