My rig is possessed

Hey guys,

Yes my rig is possessed, sometimes it turns on randomly during the night and parents aren't too happy about that, considering the noise my rig makes! But what I've noticed is the windows update sign thing that appears near the shut down icon (In the start menu) is no longer there when my rig turns on again. My computer is usually on hibernate but it also does this when I shut it down.

Any ideas guys? It also turned on again today night, but it only occurs when theres a update for windows I think. And how would I stop it from turning on randomly?

Many thanks in advance

i had this with my old pc, it could randomly turn itself on, was very weird, uknow powerbutton is connected to mobo so it might been electric error

Have you got wake up from LAN on? It might be receiving packets from the router and powering on. I've never seen this happen in action but that's what it sounds like.

You can change it in the BIOS and the device manager and then properties for your ethernet port

Maybe, I'll have to check my wiring then

Edit: Had a look at my wiring, seems ok and shouldn't be causing any problems. I don't think its the wiring though, it would occur more frequently, only happens at night o.O never seen it turn on randomly during the day

My old rig did that too, and rebooted 1/3 times when i shut it down. It was my motherboard, it stopped when i got my new. (Different psu's didn't help)

Mine would sometimes restart after putting it to sleep. You have to disable "Allow this device to wake the computer" under power management within device properties.

If the device has stored memory it can sometimes send a signal, randomly booting the PC.

Maybe you have a cat for a pet? Is the window open near your computer, could be a stray cat?

I know, I had cats once. They like walking all over things and that is enough to wake your PC from sleep. Also, you may say that you have turned off your computer completely, it can still happen, some BIOS have a setting which you can press any key to start up your machine.
