My Mafia 2 Benchmark results

Over last few days have been testing my rig with various different hardware/overclocks with the Mafia 2 benchmarks.

The settings for this are maxed out at 1920x1080 with aa on (it's either off or on under options). Also v-sync is off to enable me to get higher than 60fps and Physx is on "high" (when I've chosen to have Physx on).

One more thing, all of these have been done with my i7 950 over-clocked to 4GHz, when my 580 is referred to as "stock" the core Mhz are 772 and when i've referred to it as "oc'ed" the core MHz are 900 and all of these results are the avg. fps

Without further waiting here are my results!

Physx Off

580 at Stock

70.6 fps

580 oc'ed

80 fps

Physx On

580 at Stock (Physx On 580)

39.4 fps

580 oc'ed (Physx On 580)

41.6 fps

580 oc'ed with Physx on CPU

14.7 fps

580 at stock with Physx on 450

45.1fps

580 oc'ed with Physx on 450

46.1fps

580 at stock with Physx on 480

50fps

580 oc'ed with Physx on 480

51.7fps

Interesting results there, physx on a 450 is only a 5 fps increase with physx on the 450 than having physx on the 580 itself

Also shows 450 is not up to the job for physx on this game, as 480 more or less doubles the increase in fps from physx on 580 to physx on 450.

Jeez, an i7 950 @ 4g doing the phys drops to 14.7 fps ?!! That isn't exactly a slouch of a cpu.

What's a 450 in old money ? Like a 260 or something in terms of just cuda cores alone ?

I was considering adding a 9800 to someone's pc to help with the physx alongside a main 480, but with it's 112 cores and their likening for Mafia 2, I'm not sure it's worth it.

recently in-game 9800GT usage was about 1-20%

Lol, not a chance, I've been cutting down on my PC spending as basically all my money was being directed at it lol, havent spent any on it in over a month

. (Although I did buy an ipad 2 lol) and I know if I start doing proper benchies I'll get my hunger for more Pc parts back lol.

I updated my thread on Aria when I got my second 580 (I think). Also, I've sold my 480 & 450

Aria thread link, didn't update it with 2x580 benchies, but there are some which I did in 3D.

When in 3D with the game maxed out with my 2 580s and physx off I got 60fps (had v-sync on) most of the time which I'm glad of as its amazing in 3D

Yea 3D is not for everyone, if you've easily got the money I say go for it, else I wouldnt reccommend it, theres other things more worthwile imo. And as you said, quite a big performance drop as it has to render twice as much basically, which means you'll have to upgrade your gpu/s and your PSU in the process, lol

And yes, when I've stated physX is on, it was set to high

Thanks. I should do a few more Mafia 2 runs with default Nvidia 3D Control Pannel settings to see the differences, I'll post the result here
