My Latest Build

Here´s the last build I put together, over 2.5 months old as of today. I´m a bit late presenting it here, but better late than never eh... :)

Case - Coolermaster Stacker 831

Motherboard - Asus Rampage Formula

Processor - Yorkfield Q9450

CPU Cooler - Thermaltake Big Typhoon 120 VX

Memory - 4GB Crucial Ballistix 800MHz DDR2

Graphics Card - Evga 8800GTS 512MB

Sound Card - Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer PCI

Hard Drives - 2 X 500GB and 2 X 1TB Samsung Spinpoint

Power Supply - Corsair TX750W

Operating Systems - Ubuntu, Windows XP Pro and Vista Ultimate

I decided to invert the motherboard tray so I could see into it while i use it. Where I currently keep the box warrants me to have it on my left. I'm pretty sure the case wasn't designed to be used like this though, but I had to invert it just to be able to see all those lights. :D

Wow there are some impressive specs there - and a cool idea abot inverting the motherboard tray too. Nice build.

I do very much like the red neon blending in with the CPU-fan, looks cool.

However, i'm not a fan of the X-Fi-series, and since you also run linux (ubuntu), you probably know why. :)

Thanks Guys. :D

Indeed I do. Solid sound card for Windows, the Linux supports leaves a lot to be desired though. :(

Question, how well does the Big Typhoon cool that monster quad? I was gonna go quad but was afraid to use air cooling cause i wanna overclock. Now that i see your OCing with an air cooler im not so afraid anymore since i have the Zalman CNPS 9700

I'm getting about ~30C idle and about 45 - 50C under load with Prime95. The E6600 I was initially running before I got the Q9450 at 3.5GHz was hitting the 65C mark under the same circumstances.

Yeah the smaller fabrication process makes the chips better in about every way they can be.

I was thinking about having a Q9650 for my next build and wanted to OC it. Think the Zalman would be enough? If i dont have to watercool then thats better cause id rather not.

How much thermal power dissipation can the Zalman you currently have handle?

If it's in excess of 95W you should be fine..

To my knowledge all the multiplier locked intel quads are all within the 95W thermal envelope.

Thanks dude.

Seriously the Quad is only good for a lot of multitasking or something such as video editing. If gaming is your primary usage than a dual such as the E8400 is a winner.

That's a really nice build, especially that motherboard. You should consider OC'ing the CPU, Ram, and Graphics Card, Especially the Core and Memory Clocks. I'd get the CPU up to about 3.4 that way you get better gaming. :)
