My First Custom PC

Hey there.

It is time to build and buy my first custom PC. The PC will be primarily used for GAMING and RENDERING Here is a general overview of the possible specs

Prices from PCCG link

CPU – i7 2600k $329

CPU Cooler – CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler $39

Mobo – ASUS P8Z68-V Gen3 Motherboard $235

PSU – Corsair HX-1050 80 PLUS Silver Power Supply (future proof) $265

Case – Antec Nine Hundred Two V3 Case $139

Ram – Corsair CML16GX3M4A1600C9 16GB (4x4GB) Vengeance DDR3 $149

GPU – 2 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 Super Overclock $1198 (599 each) - SLI

Boot – Crucial M4 128gb SDD – $239

Data store – Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX $175

ODD – LG CH12LS28 12X BD-R Blu-ray DVD Combo Drive $69

Sound – ASUS Xonar DG $39

Sub-Total: $2876.00

The prices are general, as this place isn't exactly the cheapest. So I could source all of these prices a lot cheaper from stores such as MSY and uMart, but I'm just asking for an opinion and what could be changed. Thanks for reading

Sounds like a beast.

I'd hang around for the x79 to hit the shops and for the buzz to start up around them. Not only to sneaky peak at some of the new mobos, but just incase the releases have a knock-on effect on previous generation gear.

We're only talking about November 15th ?

Mmm sounds like a good idea to me. Any ideas when the hard drive situation will ease?
 
Could be months.

We have the problems the companies are having, plus a probable period where retailers will milk the high prices.

Ah true. I guess i'd have to raise the budget to cover the cost haha. Was originally going for a 2tb caviar black, changed it to a 1tb.
 
Very nice, x2 Gigabyte GTX 580 SOC. Will you be OC-ing at all? The CM Hyper 212 Plus/Evo are great to keep everything cool up to 4.0GHz. I would suggest going for something like the Thermalright Silver Arrow or the Noctua NH-D14 if you're planning to OC over the 4.0GHz mark.

The HX1050 is a nice addition. You'll be set for many yrs.

Cool. The D14 is a wonderful cooler. Can't say that enough. Also, I think 850W will be sufficient for even x2 of the GTX580 SOC. I think the AX850 will be a great PSU to have. Another great case to look at is the Fractal Design Arc Midi. You can take out the top hard drive cage if you want more room or don't need to accomodate that many hard drives.

Nice build you've got there. If you want to save some money for that extra 1tb of storage you could possibly save money on the 580's. The cheapest 580 from PCCG is $499, so that will save you $200. If it was me I'd rather spend the extra $200 on 580's with double the memory, that would be better for future-proofing.

Just my 2 cents.

PS: I have the hx1050, it is very nice. Good choice.
 
The Fractal R3 and Arc Midi are great cases. If you don't really mind a bit more noise or want to maximize airflow, the Arc Midi will be a better choice.
