My Current System...NEW

I am posting my new system I got by being a winner in the Custom Corsair Christmas Compo. I won an Intel i5 3570K processor, but it turned into my being sent a complete system. It arrived 26/3/2013 via UPS from TTL Towers. If you want to see the full story when Tom built it, go here:

My original post of my old system is at the following link. I noticed I'd made a minor mistake in the video card, I said it was a 6870, it is a 6850. Just the other day I talked to a guy where I got it as a "brown box" card and he said their "brown box" are Sapphire cards, but because they buy them as unbranded direct from the factory they can't advertise them as Sapphire. He showed me a Sapphire identical to my card. So, from now on I'll call it a Sapphire.

My Current System...OLD

The new system now contains:
Intel i5 3570K processor
Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H motherboard
Sapphire 6850 video card (GTX 560 died)
Corsair H60 AIO cooler
Corsair Vengeance C70 Mid Tower
Corsair Vengeance 8 GB RAM
Corsair Vengeance Force GT 60 GB SSD
WD Black Label 1 TB SATA III
WD Green Label 2 TB SATA III
Corsair CX500M PSU
Corsair 1 SP (used with H60) & 2 AF fans
Samsung 22" SyncMaster 226BW
Westinghouse 22" LCM-22w3 (given to me dead and repaired it)

My desk. Running on a Sapphire 6850.

Here is another hint.

The finished job! I forgot to add that it is not acrylic. I went to see about a piece of tempered glass and my old mate said he'd have to cut down a large piece and it would make the remainder a size hard to find uses for, it would cost me too much. He had a piece of 1/8" thick safety glass nearly the right size already and he'd sell it to me for $4.00. I jumped on that. He just had to cut off 1" off one side and 2" off the other side. I paid him for his time more than the glass since he said it had been laying around a long time.

Condolences about the card. :(

Love the idea with the glass! I've considered it for my current build, but it would
weigh a ton and the side panel on the Caselabs is only fixed with two hinges (the
pins at the front don't carry all that much weight, and none when the panel is
open). They're solidly built full metal hinges, but I doubt they could hold a full
glass side window without there being some deformation.

But we'll see :)

BTW: LOVE the new avatar, FredEx, so awesome! Reminds me of some old
pics of my dad from when he was younger

A couple advantages of the glass is it won't scratch and it can be thinner and extremely rigid. The glass I used is 3.175 mm and does not flex, compare that to acrylic the same thickness.

The avatar is from my tech school days, I was 22 in it. I went to electronics tech school at 18, dropped out after 9 weeks after getting chicken pox from a girlfriend's little brothers and I missed two weeks straight. I went back at 21 after where I worked closed and other big companies in the area were closing. I worked at a car dealership in the service department while at tech school.

True. That's why I'm still not done with the idea. There are a few German
glass manufacturers on eBay which will quite cheaply make you a custom
cut glass sheet (even tempered). They even let you specify where you
need any optional wholes, so I could get a glass window that I can just
mount on the already existing threads in the side panel.

Hehe, my education has been derailed by illness as well. Mechanical engineering
from 2008 until 2012, but due to ongoing troubles I only actually completed
four semesters before having to drop out. Starting with electrical engineering
next fall (hopefully  ), which depending on how you focus your
degree can be quite similar to what you would get with ME in the end.

So at some point I hope to be an ET/IT engineer with an excellent education in
mechanics and a decent basis in fluid dynamics, which is a nice bonus imho
