My Cpu Is Dead

I'm really, really pissed. Removed the XP90 from my rig ready to attach the water block, and its ripped the fucking processor out! The Arctic Ceramique has gone like glue...bent pins = can't insert processor.

Its taken me about 10 minutes to wrench the CPU off the bottom of the heatsink.

Oh shit mate, thats fucking crap.

Have u had any joy re-bending the pins?

Ya gotta give bending the pins back a shot... These new fuckin procs have such small delicate pins theyre near impossible to get straight again, even if u do, procs like to die after bending the pins.

Sorry to hear that mate. Try bending em back and give it a go, we wish you luck sir!

You hafta be REALLY careful when pulling off heatsinks/waterblocks.... AS5 likes to stick like glue to procs as well, I've ripped my old super winnie out of a closed ZIF before thankfully it fared well and still worked fine.

Good luck Muff! I know how excited we all get when new parts come in... Take a deep breath and do things slowly and steadily.

It goes

nut=>small washer=>motherboard=>small washer=>nut=>waterblock=>small washer=>spring=>thicker washer=>thumscrew

if that helps.

hey thats exactly why I never take Thermal Pads ! They are like damn glue. I just hate them. Hey Mauf what mobo do you have ? If you were able to rip out the whole proc. maybe your Mobo wasnt THAT good. :D

GL man hope you can fix something there

It's diff on A64's :) Just 2 big ass screws w/ springs that screw into the stock HSF bracket.

Um he's got a DFI....and they're a good mobo. Plus what has that got to do with the heatsink being ripped off? The XP-90 comes with its own motherboard adaptor!

Anyhoo...never used arctic ceramique so never had that problem before.....

Good luck muffin!! Hope its all ok. My fingers are crossed! :(

Do I leave the mounting plate on? The one the HS clips into.

You don't have to... I did because I think it looks better and then I wont lose it, but u can take it off if u dont want it.

AQnd don't forget the DFI mobo's have a cool UV mounting bracket! :)

See, thur ya go! Maybe u should leave it in for good UV reactivity :D

Yarr...but I got it down real tight and the fuckin water block isn't making full contact with the CPU. It wobbles from side to side slightly

U don't want it too tight, u'll crack the fuckin cpu's wafer right in half.

And what wobbles, the waterblock or the bracket? The bracker will stay slightly loose when the waterblock is attached, it serves no purpose other than to just be there when ur using a waterblock.

The water block is not touching the CPU by about 1/2 a mm. Very small amount, but its wobbling enough to worry me

K thats bad. Take out the top side bracket and see if it makes contact. That block might have a different mounting depth then mine does.

It makes perfect contact when I push it against the CPU alone. So I just leave the mounting bracket out?
