My 900D Impressions

So, i treated myself to a 900D after watching Tom's video a couple of times, moving from a Switch 810

First impressions are the case is HUGE!

I eventually managed to open the side panel, and then i snapped something off the back panel at the top. It literally just broke when i barely touched it and i was worried it was an important part, but i don't think it was. I was still annoyed it broke so easily and had visions of complaining to Overclockers and them asking me to re ship the entire case back to them (which they did when my Switch 810 arrived with a damaged top cover). I guess it's just tough luck on my part, but it's left a very sour taste in my mouth

The only other part that snapped off was one of the rear cable management arms, again, snapped super easily. Once my cable management was finally finished i placed the (non windowed) side panel back on, and it fitted, but did not feel particularly secure. I was even considering sticking a few small pieces of tape over the top, otherwise i am worried it may just decide to fall off. The magnet doesn't seem strong enough to hold it on very well

I have a Alphacool Monsta 360 80mm rad at the top of the case (Rampage IV Extreme) and fitting fans underneath it was extremely tight , as in the 8 pin CPU cable was almost crushed. I expected much more room at the top to be honest

The HDD bays are very flimsy indeed, and literally fell apart in my hard, and i had to try and get the small bar back through. They feel extremely cheap and nasty

The included corsair radiator screws fit neither my EK 240mm RAD or my Alphacool Monsta 360 Rad which is another pain.

All in all, the case is good (but is "good" acceptable for £275?) , and the room inside is amazing, but i can't help but think the case feels a little cheap in places. Given i spent a lot on it and its by far the most expensive case i've ever bought, it's overall, a bit disappointing

Would i buy another Corsair case? After this experience, probably not. Certainly not one at this price anyway

So, to sum up what you say... flimsy, pieces snap off at a touch, needs to be taped together...
Yeah sounds like a winning case to me.
I have moved all my gaming builds into Silverstone FT2B-W cases and never looked back, best case bar none. It's the only case I will use for new builds as well.

The fortress cases are some of the most solidly built cases you can get, Not the best looking but sometimes function over form is needed :)

I think they are the best looking. I like elegant simplicity in design. I like clean lines and smooth curves. I like the cases very much. Some people like cases that look like a transformer or a cartoon character, if so they would not like this case. Gawdy and overdone, they are not.

Those rads use M3 (metric) screws the corsair screws are imperial and designed for use with things like the H100i for example..... That comment actually made me laugh a bit tbh.

My Switch 810 has been awsome for me too, just reversed the M/B tray and removed the drive cages and now has 2 420s and a 360 mounted inside, plus the exhaust fan placement was perfect for my PSU placement. Only thing missing is that DWOOD pedestal!!

My only gripe with the Switch 810 would be that it is rather flimsy, owners could choose to add some extra nuts, bolts etc etc here and there though.

OK i didn't realise that. But is it wrong to assume that a case designed to house watercooling and provides 24 long fan screws, and 36 short fan screws, would fit most radiators? Oh well, learned something new.

I guess i'm going to have to find some long M3 screws then!

I still love my 810, i just found it very cramped around the back, and trying to close it with all the extension cables made the side panel bow out a bit, and i was worried i might warp the motherboard. I'll move my second system into my 810 so it won't go unloved!

what are you talking about, the Switch 810 has heaps of room at the back... I got a crap load of extensions, fan cables, splitters etc etc even leds and I can still tie them down perfectly and close the door without any difficulty...

I'd say yes it is wrong to assume that mate, as rads all have different thread sizes M3, M4 and even 6/32, so they can't provide a screw for every rad choice out there, so they just include a screw to fit their own, which does kinda make a lot of sense. If you can't find screw lying around Specialtech is my go to for any thing like that.

Brilliant, thanks for that information - i honestly did not know that different radiators used different screws.

Learn something new every day!
