My 6800Ultra Dies!!

Last night i was busy CSS'ing with Dave when i started getting really bad lag at certain places in the map (mostly where there was wide open spaces or lots of action).

I didnt think much of it, and just put it down to something on the server we was playing on.

After exiting CSS, i got all blocks over my screen, and then i got a BSOD.

I tried to start my machine this morning and got a series of beeps, so i switched out my 6800 for a pci card and everything worked ok.

Doesn't sound good, does it guys :(

Anyway, i thought i'd take precautions and have bought a 6600gt from pcworld to get me by for the weekend (i'll take it back as soon as i get the 6800 sorted )

Nope thats the thing...i've been too busy fannying around with my AMD that i aint even overclocked the card yet!

I'll check it out when i get in, but it don't sound to healthy :(

At least i have got a 6600 to get me by, otherwise i'd be playing CSS on a 2mb pci card :eek:
 
you already ordered a 6600 just for the weekend till you get you 6800 bk? you couldnt have just bought a cheap one like a fx 5200 or fx 5500?hmm another rich person i think

Yeah ya don't wanna be doing that...you'd never see anything!

The 6600GT will run your setup nice at least. Lucky you can afford a nice replacement like that (donate it to Dave after :))

Did you try re-seating the card and checking the power dongle (I know it sounds like I'm taking the piss, but sometimes that works) ;)

EDIT: And cause they're SHIT Lim!!

Yeah i gave all that a go. I was in a hurry this morning, but i tried all the basic crap. Even used a different power dongle...no joy :(

Well, i have a discount at PC World so things are a lot cheaper there for me. Plus, if i get it working, i'll just take it back on monday for a full refund.

And If i need to keep it longer, i'll be able to sell it on ebay for a good price once i'm finished with it, as they still go for reasonable money (£110+) - which will actually be a profit for me!

That really sux, definitely sounds like it's on the way out. Possible

memory problems or overheating GPU (poor thermal paste application at manufacture), I know MSI had this problem with their 6800 GT's (Nvidia reference HS). Hope ya get it sorted quickly :)

Yeah will do...

I think that when Dave has finished bulding his machine, we should make him name it "The machine that SX built"..because i think 90% of the parts have come from SX peeps...lol

Its a BFG - it seems to be all they sell in PCWorld.
