Hi guys, I have a 660 Ti and one 1080p monitor running off the hdmi of the card. I want to buy another screen and run it in addition to my main 1080p monitor. The second screen I want to use for standard windows features, web browsing, etc. while I game on my primary display. I live in South Africa and 99% of the screens available in this country are hdmi. Could I run the second screen off my motherboard and the first off my card simultaneously? (thus giving me bonus processing power for gaming) or can I get some sort of adapter for the DVI on the back of the screen or (God forbid) have to use some sort of VGA solution? Thanks :D

edit: correcting 660 ti typo

600ti? You mean a 660ti?

Just plug it in to the back of your current card via hdmi. It won't give you any bonus performance. Only way to acquire that is a higher end gpu and cpu.

i dont have another hdmi port at the back of my card, that's the problem

as far as i know,it doesnt really matter on how your second screen will be connected as long its connected on the GPU and not on the motherboard. there are all kinds of adapters voor Display port and for DVI

Sorry, you can't get DVI monitors in your country, only HDMI?

...so...you can only get TVs in your country?

HDMI is primarily a TV interface that some monitors happen to have to make them more compatible with games consoles - just as GPUs these days have HDMI ports to make them more compatible with TVs. I don't believe I've ever seen a monitor with just HDMI and VGA?

You could just go DVI out from your graphics card and use a DVI to HDMI adapter and buy a 'monitor'/TV/whatever these displays actually are.

lol im not kidding - my screen is a samsung s27b550, my friend has a Philips 237E3QPHSU, my other friend has a Dell S2340L, all only have vga and hdmi

ye well anything higher than 1080p is also hard to find. I had to buy all the parts for my computer overseas - the only pc components you can buy from walk in stores are things like wifi cards and disc drives

i'll get one of those somehow. also, is there any disadvantage to using hdmi over dvi? I won't use any panel higher than 60Hz

HDMI and DVI are basically the same, except HDMI carries audio signal as well. Neither is any better than the other in terms of video quality.

so then why does dvi exist? if it's bigger and cant take an audio stream

Some cards, I would guess most current ones, support audio with an DVI to HDMI Adapter or cables like the one above.
For a long time HDMI did only support 1080p 60hz max.

I heard somewhere that the colour range of hdmi is smaller because it's tailored to movies. I'm not a 100% sure if that's correct though.

in a direct answer to you question, you should have no problems plugging your second screen into the onboard hdmi, without the need for adaptor cables, i do it on my rig

So will that mean that my processor manages the graphics for the second screen and the gpu for the main screen? If so, is there anything else I need to altering the nvidia control panel or something

yeh, works just fine with my 2500k/z68 platform,

only config to be done is in the windows screen resolution window, so ya can set the orientation of your displays

He won't have hardware acceleration from his proper GPU.

I use the iGPU for my second screen, idle temps were higher with them both on the GPU (not sure why). It works perfectly, no real setup needed.
