MSI releases Kaby Lake ready BIOS updates for LGA 1151 motherboards

Good news for Z170 owners, Guessing the Z270 chipset will just be like the move from Z87-Z97, Slight feature set update and serial number change but nothing actually important changed.

Mostly IO. USB 3.1 Type C headers and in the rear should be added. Which is good.. not many have them and I don't think any run at Gen 2 speeds on current boards.

I hope it takes its time Im waitimg for a medical negligence claim payout and my wife has given me permission to spend 5k on a new project :)

I read Q3 for KL CPUs.. but seeing as it's no longer Q3. I have no idea when they are releasing. Zen will probably come Nov/late Nov I'd think

/faints.

Wait, Intel actually didn't force every one onto new boards?

/faints again.

You never know it is Intel and they might come up with something like -

"You can use KL on Z170 BUT it won't perform to it's fullest compared to if it was running on the new Z270".

Honestly wouldn't put it passed them ^_^

They would need to tread very carefully before making statements like that tbh. Likely to land them in legal hot water.

Is Kaby 6 core? or is that boloklake or whatever the next lake is they want to use as a name.

KL is 4 core 8 threads and Coffee Lake is 6 core probably 12 threads.

lol let's see how long it takes them to make a cup of coffee when Zen comes out.

That's the sickening part of it really. Intel should have made 6c 12t mainstream years ago. Yet they just keep dripping out 5%.

I think its on purpose, get as much out of the wafers as possible now, and when we get to the point of not being able to shrink it any more, add more cores until there is an alternative to silicon.
