MSI officially announces their GTX 1080 Ti Lightning Z

I thought MSI were making progress when i first saw the cooler. I was wrong

The back plate is awful. Can everyone please get over the RGB craze already?

It looks all right to me. Not good but not bad either.

What's funny is the GTX 2080 could be out six months from now. That's insane to me. When I bought my Fury it would two years before Vega comes out.

I think it looks pretty cool. I have no issue with RGB as long as you can control it yourself, or switch it off.

I miss the old yellow OC logo but I can certainly see why they'd drop it for aesthetics now most cases are windowed at the least or have glass panels.

I think AMD really need to get Vega out soon. The hype feels like it's all but gone. We seem to have been talking about 'vega out soon' for the last year or so. I'm cool with skipping this generation but they really need to offer something competitive and soon - before we get hyped about the next NV offering.

The issue that might happen with turning them off on this card is that you'll have this gaping, jagged transparent line across the backplate that's doing nothing and looking rather ugly. It needs the LED's on or else it might look like something is missing. When LED's are done right, you don't notice they're missing when they're turned off.

I dont think its bad at all, also regarding RGB - great! I dont know why all are disliking RGB as all are upping the price having it or not having it.

You can chose what u want and if nothing then just turn off, simple and effective.

I really like RGB. It's just sometimes it can be garishly done and obtrusive.

I saw a video about these at computex and they are digital RGB so it will pulse in lines and things it looked pretty cool if you like that sort of thing that is

Personally I like RGB (Hence my purple Corsair 460X) I think they can look good. I agree they can also look hideous.

It's interesting that 12 months ago a lot of people were complaining about 'not another red/black card/mobo/whatever' so now all manufacturers have gone to plain black pcbs with some nice RGB lighting everyone seems to have gone 'OMG so tacky/twelvie horrible'

Point is no matter what they do in the design world people will love or hate it and be vocal either way.
I will admit I chose my Z77 board based on the heatsink colour. Black and blue are a great combination. Unless you run an OC3D site. Then you want the Red black and white ;)

Yeah, very true. People will always be vocal about their opinions. That's fun and all, but bashing things needlessly and disregarding other people's opinions is a bit rude. Rarely do I ever 'hate' a design or think something is 'ugly'. I was not a fan of the new EVGA triple fan 1080Ti, but it's grown on me. I prefer to see chassis LED's illuminate non-LED components in a subtle way, but that's just personal preference. I love seeing RGB LED's on components as well. I just prefer a more subtle, natural glow.

Your rig looks very good by the way. I've been really contemplating the 460X.
