started having problems last night, everything was running fine until the computer decided randomly to turn itself off, after about an hour of this it wouldnt even get to the windows boot screen and now when i try and turn it on the fans spin up for a second and then turn off again. any ideas as to what could have caused this? back with my p4 2.8 atm :(

is it overclocked ?? if it is get it to stock speeds.

try removing the cd roms and anything that takes power and you don't need t oget to windows because maybe the psu isn't giving enaugh power

if you can try another PSU maybe the psu is giving probs.

hope this helped :)

yeah, cleared the cmos so everything was back at stock, unplugged the cdroms, one harddrive and put a 9800 pro in instead of my 6800 ultra because it uses alot less power, nothing worked. i havent tried a different PSU though, i'll try it later

thanks

I doubt it will help, but try resetting your CMOS (the jumper on your motherboard). It does sound like the PSU is faulty tho.

reset the CMOS, didn't work :( i HOPE its the PSU because i'm gonna buy a new one anyway, if it's the motherboard i'll have to wait for MSI to send the replacement

It sounds like something is grounding out. Try taking the motherboard out of the case and lying it on a static proof bag. Then boot it up and see if it still exhibits the same behavior. If not, then make sure all of your risers have a matching hole in the motherboard. As long as nothing is touching anything on the motherboard, you should be okay to go.
