MSI GTX1080 Gaming X Review

Hi,

This is my first post so hello everyone.

Which one is quieter this or the Strix? I mean it looks like Strix is very loud so probably anything will quieter then Strix but I still wonder.

Have you noticed any coil whine on MSI?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums. The MSI is very quiet, as TTL pointed out in his review. I believe he even mentioned that you can't hear it out of the rig a few times, even under heavy load. If noise is the major factor, I'd choose the MSI Gaming over the Strix.

Hey,

Thanks for input.

The problem is without hard evidence I will not switch my pre-order. As there is just no point to if I am not 100% sure what I am getting into.

Lets see if he replays or any owners of either.

ASUS = coil whine free other cards are lottery. So if I would only know how is the noise when both cards are 80-82C at load with custom fan profile then they could be properly compared in noise department.

Cheers

What I meant is that they are trying to address it by specially picked components to battle it with 1080 strix. So far reviewers say it is mostly free from it.

Being a hardware enthusiast myself and investing always way too much money into hardware, I can promise you that you're on the very safe side with MSI. I never ever had any issues with coil whine. It does remind me of AMD cards from yesteryear. HD4870 would come to mind.

But I think I'd have the same issue with coil whine if the 1080 would have that issue. I have the EVGA GTX1080 FE, and because it's watercooled, I'd really have to be able to tell. And there is coil whine of any kind. I even pressed my head against the card at full load to make sure if you'd possibly be able to hear anything.

I therefore cannot imagine either the Strix or the MSI Gaming having these issues, if the stock 1080 doesn't have it. If you want the Strix, by all means, go for it. I cannot imagine it being a bad purchase; TTL did point out in his review that the MSI Gaming remains really quiet though....
