MSI A88Xi AC V2 - 860K overclocking

I have a very weird problem, overclocking this CPU on this board. I turned off all the bios powersaving features, windows powersaving options, everything possible. The CPU still changes frequency if I stress test it, it jumps from 1700 Mhz to 4200 Mhz and the temps are 46c load.. What

It might have to do with the VRM temps not the cpu temps

The truth is that if you want to go AMD and not stay on stock clocks you have to buy something with beefy power delivery system. The steamroller architecture is a "reworked" piledriver/bulldozer

No Tom, everything is turned off, I also tried disabling windows own power features, nothing helps.. I think #2 is right, the VRM heatsink on this mb is tiny. My cpu temps only reach 50-52c max load at 4.5ghz but it still throttles, it only stops throttling at 4ghz when max temp is 42c

The point was never to make this system a beast in the first place since I decided to build my Mini ITX system with AMD, would just have been nice if it would reach 4.5ghz, it can in games and everything in between but I want it 100% stable for everything so ill settle with the 4ghz if the VRM's cant handle more

Sorry I read it wrong I didnt realise it was doing it when you stress it.

What cooler are you using?

What are you setting the vcore too?

Are you using AMD overdrive for temps?

CM Hyper 212 Evo

The board has no open settings for voltage, they are auto :/.. adjusted depending on the multi I set (I already updated to latest bios, still no voltage settings available)

AMD OD is useless, it says my CPU is 18c under load, I use core temp and AIDA64

Edit: The board sets CPU volt at 1.3ish @ 4.0 ghz and 1.426 ish at 4.5ghz

Yeah I did Tom,the vcore is fluctuating under load, 1.302 1.320 max at 4ghz and around 1.396-1.420 at 4.5ghz

Its likely to be throttling because of heat - it wont do it because of fets thats just stupid. They are rated for over 100c for them to overheat you couldnt touch the heatsink and if anything they would die or shut the rig off not make it throttle.

I see, then no program can do an accurate read on temps, heat coming out the back of the heatsink isnt even hot. I don't get it, strange

-_- because the mb doesnt have that OPTION. It can only oc a 65w apu series with oc genie, im just out of luck. MSI doesn't describe this on their website and no review has been saying it. I found out myself.

Edit: Anyway, thx for the help guys, nothing I can do about it, I oc'ed a little with base clock instead and got some better results that way but other than that, still stuck around 4.0 ghz or the mb gives the cpu to much voltage. Even bumping CPU/NB from 1.8 to 2.0ghz the temp rises 6-7c, apparently thats enough for the cpu to start throttling, but then again, I dont trust any of the readouts of the programs. If it gets so hot that its supposed to throttle i'd think I would feel the heat out the back of the heatsink as warm as an FX chip but its a mild heat touching my hand

Oh okay, upon further research I found a review also finding that theres no manual vcore options :)
