MSI 175Hz MEG 342C QD-OLED gaming monitor looks incredible

Shame no DP 2.0

Other than that looks like it'll be a great unit excluding pricing

DP2.0 isn't really needed at this res/refresh rate, The monitor wouldn't really make use of it and it would only serve to increase the price. Only once you exceed 4K120 at 10 bit would it be a nice feature if you don't like DSC.

Not entirely true. DP 1.3/4 has a max theoretical bandwidth of 25.92Gbit/s

This monitor at 3440x1440p using it's stated 10bit at native 175hz, requires 28.96 Gbit/s

At 8bit however this monitor would be under that limit with 23.17Gbit/s.

This doesn't include HDR. It roughly adds 10% bandwidth vs SDR afaik. Which at 8bit would still barely keep you under the threshold.

Well if they can use DP1.4a and still get the job done they then don't need DP2.0 for this monitor.

Guessing they're using DSC then ?

At 10bit yes they would have to. Just the 2:1 ratio not the more compressive 3:1.

At 8bit it would be fine but spending that much on a monitor (assuming very expensive) for 8bit seems ridiculous considering alternative options.

My monitor uses DSC at 4K 240Hz 10 bit, I've done blind A/B tests and honestly I cannot tell a difference in visual quality or any other metric, I'm guessing DSC will be used less and less going forward though with DP2.0 monitors slowly rolling out.

I feel like we had this discussion before some time ago with the Samsung G7 monitors. Never experienced DSC on a 4k Monitor, would be interesting to see the comparison.

Yep we did, Done blind A/B tests and I cannot tell the difference when DSC is being used and not, Quite impressive IMO.
