yepp so guys i have ordered my motherboard dfi lanparty UT nf3 skt 939 and cpu venice 3200+

now next on the list is ram what should i be aiming towards. keeping within limits lol i dont want to overly spend :) cheers guys

I'd say what envias listed there but seeing as how you have such a low multiplier you're going to need something TCCD based.

I know you don't want to spend an arm and a leg but see if u can dig up some G.Skill LE or older OCZ Rev. 2 Platinum.

That's the new Rev2, you don't want that. That has the TCC5, notice the factory specs of 2-3-2-5 and a voltage warranty only up to 2.6v.

The G.Skill LE is going to be your best bet in knowing what kind of IC's your getting when you buy it. If you go with the Rev2 now and aren't 100% certain its the old stuff u could get stuck with TCC5.

I still have my pair of Rev2 laying around somewhere :)

i would get some TCCD like fragtek said. get the g.skill or fragteks ;) Btw how much are you willing to spend??

I'm not sure if I want to sell mine anymore... I'm thinking about holding on to it to use in a css/ts dedicated server build. Gotta do some more pondering on that though :)

probably $400AU around abouts , i really need to open up the bandwidth here and, because at the time i buy it i will be getting a XP-90c i will ofcourse be overclocking :) what do you think guys?

best bet :

second option :

http://pccasegear.com/prod2525.htm

I recommended FC first becoz you have a 10x multi. Meaning the max you will get around if your lucky is about 10x280. That ram will do that speed with 2.5-x-3-7 timings without any problem at all .

The second one is if you want to be sure it will hit those speeds and still be in specs. I know for sure the FC will do around 285 mhz min . With aircooling , i doubt u will be able to go beyond 2.85 ghz.

Another good option is the crucial ballistix series. But i dunno if they are available in AUS yet. You can hit around 280 mhz with a little tweaking and voltage at 2.5-3-3-6 timings. And if you compare TCCD and Ballistix at same speeds and timings , ballistix has a better bandwidth. Its just how they are made.

And if you wanna be cool and run your memory hot like every other guy who owns a dfi skt 939 board , then the gskill GH or the OCZ PC4000 gold VX series are the perfect choice for ya.

heres a link to a review for Gskill FC by OPB ( for those who do not know who he is , consider him sort of my counterpart and my guru over at XS ) :

yes thanks for your help bourne, i will probably get the Gskills PC4800 with TCCD :worship:

go with FC dude , u save money and u wont regret it definitely.

FC from wht i have heard is using TCCD as well.

The new OCZ Plat. Rev. 2 with TCC5 is consistently doing over 275 mhz over at XS as well with a few hitting over 300 albeit with slightly looser timings. Looks like OCZ is binning those chips as well. So they arent a bad bet either.

Personally im biased to Gskill , but thats just my opinion. But PC4800 will be an overkill for you and wont effectively be called an oc for the memory ( since PC4800 IS its def. specs ) . Why not try FC , if you have problems or hit a wall , Im always there to recommend some L33t settings neways :D .

Offtopic , but btw Frag , how are ur mushkins doing now ? Got any luck getting them higher ? :p

TBQH I havent even tried yet, lol.... I've been continuously sorting my OS issues out the last few days with no time to put my head back in to overclocking mode. If my net is back up when I get home (grrrr... *stabs comcast*) I'll try and fix everything back up to normal and I'll see what I can do in the way of dropping the volts a bit and/or push it a bit higher :)
