More GTAIV problems... How surprising...

Okay, so I'm back with more GTA problems. How surprising...

Installed my mods back on after I installed a fresh version of GTAIV (car mods and texture changes for guns). I kept getting unrecoverable faults and I assumed that it was because I had cars saved in the save area outside your safe house. So, I had fixed this before by simply going to the cars, moving it out the save area and saving again. However this time its a bit harder. I can play GTA fine, until I get around the area of the first safe house. If I stay clear of that area, I'm fine. But it's come to the part now where I HAVE to go to that area to complete a mission. However I can't walk out move it and walk back in because my safe house is at the top of the map now. By the time I've moved the car out and I am driving half way up the street to save my game, it crashes.

So, I uninstalled all the mods, thought this would allow me to move them out the save spot and go save again. No. I am still getting the "GTAIV fatal error: unrecoverable fault". What the hell can it be? I have no mods installed any more and I can't get rid of the cars from the save spot because it crashes before I can save again. When I Google it, all the searches come up with unrecoverable fault smpa60 or smpa40. An actual error code, whereas mine doesn't.

Any ideas?

Have you tried verifying the integrity of the game cache?

Steam - right click GTA IV - Properties - local files - verify integrity of game cache...

That properly uninstalls mods and deletes any trace of them.

I tend to avoid using registry cleaners. Just never really found them to work in my use and they always seem to cause more problems than were originally there.

For me, I tend to think if a program isnt working, dont try and fix it, uninstall it fully then reinstall. Don't use third party programs to attempt to fix it.

If there is a problem with your windows registry - you say 99, but programs like that tend to overstate your problems significantly, then I'd recommend a fresh reinstall of windows.

Well verifying the game cache found 10 files missing or something. it downloaded those. aaaaand the game still crashes. Just about out of ideas as to what it could be and how to fix it now. Rather pissed off.

I did have some crashing issues when I played GTA. That was caused by overclocks as I know the game doesnt like them.

Try turning all cpu and graphics clocks off, maybe even reset the CMOS

Shifting back to stock clocks didn't do anything.

Don't have another drive dude. Only my SSD which doesn't have enough room.. Plus, it's on steam so doesn't that mean my whole steam folder would have to be on there as well?

wait so it is a steam version?was it updated to the latest version or did you do the downgrade(as most mods do not work with 1.7,which was the exp pack patch, they have to be downgraded to 1.4).

I would delete your GFWL profile from your PC(the savegames and config file) as that will be messed up,as long as those files are on your PC the game will never work right no matter how many times you re download it

the files are not interchangeable between the versions.

What is the exp pack patch?

And I'm not too sure what version my GTA is. How can I find out? I remember doing it once before but can't remember how. Also, how do I downgrade? Do I just find an online download of 1.4 and download that?

Ah that's a pain in the ass if I have to delete my saves AGAIN lol. I have been near to completing the game 3 times now and GTA has always buggered up and I've had to start again

lol Although, if it fixes it, I will be more than happy to do it.

Sorry for being a complete noob, but how do I delete my GFWL profile completely? Just uninstall GFWL orr?

The last patch released for the game was just in time for the 2 episodes from liberty city,Yours is a steam copy so it will auto update.

Tells you how to downgrade

C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games

C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive

Those are the folders where all the game save stuff is hidden away
