Monitor fault? Hoping so...

Just upgraded to a 750 Ti, but I have noticed an issue with my monitor (at least I hope it's my monitor) - picture below:

This horizontal line (level marked with Tippex) shows on high luminence colours during 3D and not, and the line fades out before it reaches the left edge of the screen - I thought it was lens flare in the games at first! Coincidentally - or not - it sits right at the top edge of the taskbar.

Is this more likely to be a monitor fault? I have no access to another monitor or graphics card, so I can't test either of them. It's an old one - >6 years - so a replacement is probably due. Just a shame I can't resell it with this fault:(.

I would first check all cables are nice and snug, no bent pins etc.

how does it look when you turn it off?

try onboard output, assuming its the one in your sig.

Screen burn. It happens after a while to any screen that shows a static image, and when using Windows the taskbar is present on every single screen apart from when using full screen programmes like games or movies.

I guess the big question is - did you notice it before upgrading to the 750 Ti, or are you 100% certain it has only started happening since the upgrade?

that could be the case but do modern panels even do that? i know early plasma tv's did that super easily but never heard of tn or ips panel burning out image

Screen burn is kind of a misnomer, as LCDs don't suffer from phosphor wear. But the crystals themselves can get used to a particular twist, meaning that after a long time displaying a static image (6 years x 365 days x however many hours you display the Windows taskbar... ) you end up with a "video memory" on the screen. Some say that 48 hours power off time cures it, others say it's permanent.

I managed to fudge a test, and it is definitely the monitor.

Not too bad - the girl had a good old run, and I managed to bag a 1080 LED IPS panel off ebay for fifty-odd quid;).

I had a U2713HM that did it all the time, when going from YouTube to OC3D you could always see a ghost of the frame on the blue. No permanent damage but it stuck around for a while each time.
