Monitor Advice and Recommendations.

My Dell 2716dgr just died on me. I dont know what happened but midway through games I smelt a burning smell and not it won't power on at all. Im looking for a solid 27inch 1440p or 4k monitor for gaming and so on. Im currently looking at Gigabytes FI27Q-P or LG GL850 or GN950 if I can find it.

The worst part is I am just in a random chunk of the States. For some reason, cough cough, we can't seem to get a lot of different tech options shipped safely to the US these days. :T

Mate if you want that msi monitor talk to msi USA and see what help they can give you as nothing ventured nothing gained right

Odyssey G7 is a good one too. And has HDR600 if you are into that sort. Also 240hz refresh.

Okay so after doing a fair bit of research I am stuck with an awkward situation. The MSI is just out of the cards currently as the US is not getting most new tech thanks to our you know what situation. However, there are some good black friday deals going on currently. The LG GN850(2020 GL850 with no usb hub) is 400$(300GBP) which is a great deal. However I have heard the Dell S2721DGF is overall the best Nano IPS monitor. While it does often go on sale for about the same as the GN850 it is not CURRENTLY on sale so it is 500$(400GBP). Now the Odyssey G7, apparently all of its issues have been fixed and it seems to have the best overall color experience because it ether matches or is just slightly trails behind its IPS competitors while having far better blacks. It is also on sell, but, it is still the most expensive at 600$(500GBP). So, as always, I come to you guys for the deciding factor on these things because I value this communities opinions. Is it worth the extra money for the refresh rate and darker blacks or should I go with the maximum value currently available?

Nano IPS is a good option. However, I have the G7 and after all the fixes, I can safely say its one hell of an all rounder monitor.

The HDR in some games is superb once you get the settings right. But basedon the options you list above. They are all really good.

I opted for the G7 for the 240hz.

Yeah as Warchild said it looks like the Samsung G7 is the monitor to buy now that the fixes have been implemented.

Okay I have kind of littled it down to the GN850 and the G7. Do you guys think the extra 200$ is worth it? I am legit hard pressed for this decision. On one case I save a nice chunk but on the other hand I pretty much get the best 1440p monitor. Hmmm...

G7 for sure it's deffo worth the extra and it might even be worthwhile to get the 32 G7 rather than the 27 as it might be better with the 1000r curvature

Mate I love the realestate of the 34 that I'm using and TBH I wouldn't like to go back to a 27 and 32 is closer to 34 than not so IF you can afford it and you want it to be awhile before you change monitor again then yeah I'd say go for the 32, plus the 1000r curvature might be a bit much on the 27 vs the 32 plus who wouldn't like another 5 inches :p

Funny enough as I went to this reply Newegg had a sell. The 32 is now the same price as the 27 so I got the 32 one ordered! :D

Congrats,

I would have got the 32 also if it didnt have the major flickering. I returned mine twice. But now the issues have been resolved I think you have a major bargain there!

Its a fantastic monitor. My suggestion to you is to crank the brightness slider to almost max in the windows settings for HDR. If you use HDR that is.

So I just received my Samsung Odyssey G7 32 from Newegg, grabbed it up since they were having a nice sell. I updated the firmware since it was on the really old 1004 firmware to the 1009.3 firmware. After this I am seemingly noticing a sudden dullness in the colors compared to how much the monitor popped before hand. I am not sure if this is just a trick of the eyes or if I am actually noticing some kind of issue here. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced the same issues?

Go to tft central. I believe they provide the best colour setup.

Also in windows if you use HDR on, turn the slider to max. Additionally, use display port 2 not 1. And in the monitor menu enable VRR and display port 1.4

The colour dullness was due to fixing an issue with incompatibility within a certain colour range. It was present in the original firmware.
