modem and usb bandwidth

well i am in somewhat of a predicament now that i have figured out whats wrong.

my usb modem uses 75% of the usb bandwidth and because of that i cant use my G15 cause windows says the usb bandwidth is exceeded which is really buggin me now.

why the hell does the modem need so much bandwidth?

is there anyway i can limit some of its bandwidth without much loss?

i only need to free about 13%

i have tried every free usb port on my computer but it always says the same.

and going wireless is not an option right now.

Sounds like a problem with your modem mate... It's not releasing unused bandwidth to other devices. USB modems FTL anyhow, I'd get something you can connect via ethernet.

the modem is pretty reliable and it does its job fine of providing 7mb+ net so why spend money imo

especially when ime probably gonna switch isp's in 1-2 months and they are supplying a free wireless adsl2+ modem/router :p

isnt there anyway to force it to free up bandwidth if its not doing so?

this is very strange. The only thing i can think of is for you to get a pci usb card and run the modem off that.

Really wierd - I didnt even know Windows monitored that. I've seen it complain about power before, but never bandwidth.

As nunzio said - Maybe think about getting a cheap-o PCI modem?

I`ve had the G15 complain about power, not bandwidth tho.

Definately get the modem off the usb tho, if it hogs it that much it`ll screw u`r whole usb setup.

lol and how do you suppose i get net if i take it off?

spending money on a new modem/router now is not a possiblility

and my mouse, bluetooth dongle and digicam dock work fine with the modem in:)

Have you actually attempted getting all the drivers ready, uninstalling all the usb devices, then reinstalling the USB drivers and install all the devices?

The thing just has a USB port on the back ? No other connectivity ? That`s a bum rap tbh.

Cheapest of the cheapo Ntl types I`ve seen have got both USB and ethernet.

the drivers are fine,so are the usb drivers or else other usb decices would play up so i wont even bother doing that.

Tis a shame.. the G15 rocks :) Tho the lcd does get confused with the Z10's

Got a G15 on order and a pair of Z10's in a box waiting to be hooked up - is the confusion anything serious?

It's not that much hassle and it's worth a go if you want the problem fixed? If I was in your position I'd try reinstalling the drivers to reset everything, if the USB modem is still hogging the bandwidth then it's most likely faulty.

But your obviously looking for a quick fix...

Nothing to silly.. I would advise installing the g15 first.

When using logitech lcd manager, you have the choice of what screen to display things in the advance options, iirc. You have to set it each time you add a new app.

I would also advise getting a copy of sirreal's g15 plugin, great little sysmon with plugins for ts and winamp.
