That patch is not a ballache. It tells Windows that you are running an X58 board. Then when you install drivers and they look to your device manager they see X58 and run.

In short -

A couple of Russian hackers decompiled an X58 bios to see what it was that allowed both to be ran.

They then probed what was going on and used a portion of said bios to fool drivers into thinking you have an X58 set.

If some one wants to send me a couple of crappy Nvid cards and an SLI bridge I would be more than happy to test it out for you.
 
Course you can. The drivers think they are seeing an X58 chipset dude. This is low low low level sh*t here. And that's why it works.
