Missing resistors on 4770K

How serious is the damage if these resistors are missing?

It does boot into the bios though.
Anything you should be aware of overclocking wise or stability wise?

Yeah but you usually don't delid the resistors on the bottom... I could understand it if you cut off the die on top, but the resistors on the bottom?

resistors are there to control voltage, a small OC would be fine but I would be careful overvolting it as the voltages might jump quite a bit.

That's why it was an accident mate!
You put it in the vice upside down (clamping the heatspreader) then use a block of wood to hit the CPU off the heatspreader.

ahh... ohh... well that's... a .... method.... I guess.

Well warranty is most definitely void and I wouldn't attempt to solder them back on. If you can get it to boot, lucky you, but I would expect a lower life expectancy at the very least, while I doubt that other components will be damaged. Proceed with a lot of caution tho.

its quite impressive that you managed that to be fair, did the wood slip off the edge of pcb and went straight for resistors? if it works then just take care with voltages or just sell it ass ttl said :P

The razor method is just as prone to damage.

The vice only method is best in this respect. One side of vice on PCB, the other side of vice on IHS. Tighten slowly...the moment the IHS slips a little, you're done. 15 seconds. No hammer, no slipping, just enough pressure applied slowly.

As to running this thing....we have no real idea which resistors were removed or what they do exactly. We know generally, but we can't be precise. I'm not even sure we have reliable figures on the values required.

It's my 4770K

The wood slipped on impact and took the resisters out, my fault for being careless really, the CPU is working and im posting from the PC now, im just testing how stable it is
