So this mean it's going to support DX12? I don't really think it needs it tbh.
Only thing I wish they did was update the graphics.. yes I know it's not meant to be the most graphically stunning piece of art on earth, but they could add some more geometry and tessellation at least as an option to give little more detail in the blocks for say stone and have edges along with them being all rough and edgy. Just gives it a better feel I'd say. Then I would think DX12 would make sense as it would help for lower end systems but it shouldn't be anything to crazy.. just a slight upgrade and nothing big.

Well Minecraft has always been known to run like crap on everything, so it being rebuilt is definitely a good idea.

I just hope some of the great mods get rebuilt for the new version

Here's a Q :
Can Java (on which Minecraft is based upon), support DirectX features ?
Because in official requirements for this game, OpenGL support is required (not DirectX) : LINK.

yeah, that is for the current version of Minecraft. THis new version is almost certainly using DX, it is Microsoft now after all.

I have never played Minecraft but my nephew does on his Xbox is it any good?

It is one of those games that you either love or hate.

You need to mine resources and set yourself up and then the game is a building game really. It is nice when modded and you can automate mining etc on an online server where you can make big building projects with friends.

On second thought I don't think it's DX.. it's based off the pocket edition of the game which is the mobile version from which I read in other places. So I'm pretty curious to see how it's gonna turn out

I'd think it would be based on the current Xbox One version, with the Pocket edition being rewritten to match.

I don't see why they want to start over though with a different version. They should have just taken the original pc build and got it running on DX or openGL(Vulkan I suppose) to really make it a worthwhile improvement that could keep being expanded with features because it's capable of handling it and not bugging down. Makes sense in the long term

The Xbox version is most likely written in C++ and supports DX10. The PC version is written in god-awful Java and supports OpenGL. Seems easier to use the Xbox version - though surely it will break all mod support.

Then I don't see a reason to not support DX12 as well if it's already in DX10? Especially if it's W10 they don't really have a choice but 12 anyways right?

IMO i don't see many people who make mods for Minecraft jumping over to this plus is Microsoft trying to change this to more of a GPU game instead of a CPU game.
