Middle-earth: Shadow of War "Forthog Orc Slayer" trailer

We are going to honor our dear departed friend by turning him into a payed DLC character. BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

They say the money is going to the family, so at least there is that. Having this as a free DLC does not help his family.

The game will have its micropayments etc and that may be seen as questionable by some, but I'm not going to argue with this specific piece of DLC. I don't think they could have done it better.

Are you seriously going to degrade them? They don't earn ANYTHING off this DLC. All the money goes straight to the family. Have some respect.

As for you WYP, they haven't done anything wrong or shady. So I don't see how you could make that argument in the first place?

Apologies, my post there doesn't read well.

What I should have said was that the microtransactions store etc could be seen as questionable or money grabby by some, but I find no reason to fault this specific piece of content. I am hearing a lot of people calling monolith shady/exploitative over the microtransactions in Shadow of War.

I think Jim Sterling has a video calling out Monolith over this perceived issue.

If you don't like micro transactions you don't need to buy them and if you don't want this DLC you don't need to buy it. simple.

So long as the game can be completed without any issues without the microtransactions then there is no issue, if it is faster with microtransactions, that is not necessarily an issue. Some people want to pay to speed things along, to some time is worth a lot more than money and would prefer to speed things up a little to push the narrative forward.

Ay agreed. People act like it's the end of the world.
What's so bad about microtransactions? The top games in the world use them. So why should Monolith not?
LoL, DotA 2, CSGO, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch, etc. Pretty much the top played games use it. Nobody complains. All Monolith is doing is taking it a step further and giving you MORE than just cosmetics for the same price. You can earn them through in game too by finding loot boxes after taking a fortress/etc. Idk. Gamers are way to sensitive and hypocritical these days.

People are up in arms because it is primarily a single-player game and then don't trust the developers to not mess with the balance to make micro payments more attractive.

It is like how Sonic Mania is getting all the DRM nuts in a fuss when so many games release with Denuvo without issues.

I understand that. But I mean it's pretty easy to see it won't be balanced for it. All you get is Orcs and gear. You can do that through the game by just killing enemies. We've seen it a hundred times before they ever announced it. It's really not a big deal but if you go on YT it's just a bunch of videos about how crappy they are and mostly it's just morons who say the same thing over and over without actually looking into it.

It has been confirmed that foreign purchases of this DLC will not have any money go towards the Forgey family.

Well... this is disappointing.

I will update the article as this story continues to develop. This is a very unfortunate situation.

It's hilarious either way. There are other ways to help his family. Turning a dead guy into a piece of payed DLC is just tasteless no matter how you cut it.

It doesn't matter to me either way. I couldn't get through the first game because I got bored. I've never been a Tolkien fan, so the setting is one reason. The other reason is that the game didn't have anything to offer other than killing orcs and uruks.
Nemesis system is cool on paper, but it only works if the game is challenging enough to get you killed. I couldn't die in that game. And the longer I played the more powerful and harder to kill I was.

This was already known. It's just by law. Not much they can do.

There's nothing funny about it. Did you even watch the stream? The reasons why they put him in? How upset they were just talking about him? This is not a money cash grab. Far from it. They had to go out of there way to get him into the game. They all worked on it on there own time since there was no budget or time for them to work on it during development.

For your second point, this second game is much harder. They even added difficulty settings because last game you could become far to powerful. So they did address that issue.

This is wrong

I'm sorry but they do make money off of this.....the dlc is $5 while $3.50 goes to the family which I'm completely ok with....BUT if you pause at 2:28 and read the TINY disclaimer on the bottom of the screen, you'll realize the donation is ONLY for 50 states in the US, with AL HI IL MA SC along with the rest of the planet being excluded, meaning if you buy it in the UK nothing will go to that man's family, consider how only a small percentage of the customer base is in those 50 US states, I can't help but feel they are exploiting a dead man's name for profit. The right thing for the company to do would be to give the money they earn world wide to the man's family instead of those 50 US states.

Which is by law and something they cannot get around. If you read what I said you would have noted that I mentioned this already.
It would be up to Steam if they can region lock the DLC. It may not be possible and not something Steam would even want to do because they make money off the DLC. They also TELL YOU where the Donations are applicable from on the Steam page. It's not like they are hiding it either. If they did not mention this, then I would agree with you and ImprovizoR that it is an act of greed. However since they tell you upfront, it's not shady

It is also not like you need the DLC if you are not in one of the States that goes toward the donations. You can still get Orcs to save you without it. It's just a special version of being saved while doing something good for a family in need.
