Microsoft's DirectML is the next-generation game-changer that nobody's talking about

Depending on how long games have been in development for next gen consoles, this feature probably won't be as popular for at least the first year of consoles coming out. Might not be worth the added development time when they are just porting games from multiple platforms in the beginning. First-party games though will for sure have this capability, one could only assume.

Why do you think PC games specifically will suck?

They always do dude.

EOL of the 360 pc games were awful. Specifically dx11 which took about three years to become mainstream (one Dev cycle) and when the One and PS4 came out pc gaming stood still for ages. To the point where the 1x and PS4 pro are better than a pc costing much more.

That gap will only widen when the new consoles come along. Like, even if the x1sx or whatever it's called is 500 or 600 it will batter a pc costing twice that much now.

I still believe consoles are the priority. There's only one pc and far more consoles. Like more as in platforms. And they want to appeal to all so consoles are more in numbers.

Plus they get exclusives. Something that hasn't happened on pc for years.

It's only now as the next gen consoles are being ramped up that pc graphics are starting to improve. For the first time in years.

All of the progress has been made on consoles, something I never knew until I bought the PS4 and one. I was like holy crap, this is seriously impressive. Making me wonder why pc graphics weren't far ahead like in the days of the 360.

The gap is closing man.

I can agree that consoles do there job well and are good value, but cyberpunk 2077 will look a whole lot better on PC I feel and end of day they are more than just gaming, but even something like final fantasy vii remake will look better on PC personally I don't mind waiting for a good port with better visuals.

As for the xbox it wont matter how powerful it is Sony will do far better just look back across the generations at total sales.

That will be so until the new consoles arrive. With the equivalent of even a 5700 "direct to the metal" on a purposely designed system I have no doubt they'll do as well with a pc with a 2080ti in it.

If you're in doubt spend £300 on a XB1X and load up rdr2 @4k. Sure it's 30 FPS but it's absolutely breathtaking.

That's the worry for pcs now. The consoles are catching up, every nuance can be addressed and coded for to the metal and they'll easily out gun pcs costing twice as much. They do now. Try and build a pc that does 4k 30 consistently for £600 at any settings that don't look like hot garbage. It's just not possible.

I said it before but I'll say it again - I've not been as impressed with any gaming technology as much as the 1x since I first played dying light at 4k on two Titan black years ago. Not so much in that it's better than ultra 4k on a 5k rig (as in £) but at what it's able to do for less than the most entry level pc. It's just incredible.

I bought a 360 once. Tried playing FONV but it looked like hot garbage and crawled to a halt when loads of enemies were attacking. No fsaa at all it was horrific. That was the last time I even tried it, and as always it got crapped on by a pc costing not much more .

Oh and fwiw the 1x demolishes the pro. It's not even close. Pro doesn't even do proper 4k.

The one was awful and still is. The PS4 is much better. But the 1x in 4k is amazing. Gears 5 too, it's simply defying physics. Even RAGE 2 looks tits.

Well I look at it this way PC has always cost more my first PC many years ago cost me 2k+ so PC has never been cheap as such, but while the consoles will have catched up with the new generation the PC will go ahead of them at the same time both the main brands have new cards coming out sure they wont be cheap and yes for purely gaming the consoles are better value, but the PC will look better the newer cards are going to be a lot more powerful than the consoles and even on the CPU side the PC is way ahead.

I get your points but it doesn't change how it's always been tbh.

The other reason I enjoy PC atm is I get the best of all things I can get MS games and Sony games and PC first titles so while at times I have to wait the end result is often worth it a year later, plus the consoles are in essence X86 so ports are very good now.

I don't see the consoles as a bad choice and you could just have a laptop for all the other things, but it's preference really any option is valid if it suits your needs, tech is tech and it is for me amazing to have lived through all of it since the Atari 2600 until now it's amazing how far things have come :)

I don't agree entirely.

EOL PS3/Xbox Gen to next-gen at the time was much different than it will be now. Those were not nearly as advanced in libraries or tooling. New Console dev kits are far more robust now and Especially Xbox using DX12, the transition for that specifically will be much smoother. MS is placing the One X as the "cheap" console whereas the Series X will be the "Tier up".

You also forget, PCs now are still more powerful. Yeah the gap has closed, however consoles are stagnant. Zen 3 is around the corner as is Next Gen AMD GPUs, Nvidia GPUs, and Intel CPUs. Within a short time Consoles will already be inferior.

Also keep in mind, once consoles become more powerful, the lowest denominator raises. Which lets devs raise their ceiling for top tier PCs. It lets them expand their creativity and who knows what they can come up with.

As you said the gap is MUCH closer now, but it won't stay that way for long.

But in regards to your # of platform's vs PC comment don't forget PC still makes more than all consoles combined.

I think it's the games that were stagnant tbh. However we've seen some next gen titles recently so I have hope that more are to come. I'm really enjoying the new modern warfare on my PCs. Graphics are gorgeous.

I suppose what I'm getting at is this. Who would make a game that uses every drop of pc power which then would not run on a console? Crytek, nearly 10? Years ago or more that's who.

Nobody has done it since.

This !

The last time I said "Woah" to a game was when Crysis 1 came out, Since then it seems games have been tailored around the lowest common denominator i.e consoles, Which just sucks for graphical advancement, Yeah sure we have some pretty games now but the speed of advancement has been painfully slow when right now we should be so much further ahead if developers weren't constantly limited by obsolete hardware.

Thanks, I do try.

Maybe you should too. You know? Don't post thick stuff like that it brings the intelligence down on the forum.

2080 Super RDNA 2 card in a console. You can add 20% on top of that due to the massively reduced overheads.

For context the 1x has a Polaris type part that can already do 4k 30 quite easily.
