At least Microsoft are doing something for the peopel who don't understand how to use/buy anti-virus products. (I feel I may have sparked a conversation here and Rast will probably give some sort of large comment. )

Assuming that MSE comes pre-installed, then I can safely say that computer illiterate people will be better off with MSE rather than something you have to install as the installation process alone is mind boggling enough.

Free AVG, Windows' firewall is enough for most.

Job done.

Biggest thing - learn what to click and what not to whilst on the tinternet.

I'd rather microsoft not bother and concentr8 on other things they need to do.

I think this is a good move, if it comes preinstalled. In thery is means no pc will be without AV protection. Surely thats a good thing that will help slow the spread of viral infections.

Well the best thing would be to stop users using them - in that sense they'll never get infections

But if I put my rogue hat on for a minute, I can see downsides to the OS automagically having a built in antivirus.

It will lead to patches and upgrades merely for the exploits of having the thing itself installed.

They should work harder on other things tho. Free AVG is, as it suggests, free - which means everyone can have it.
