No matter what Toshiba decides to do about HD DVD, Microsoft says the decision will have little bearing on the Xbox 360 game console, for which the Redmond company sells a HD DVD add-on.

"We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace.

As we've long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles, and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library,

with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry.", Microsoft said in a statement.

dead link (Y). I cant see it phasing the 360, i guess they will just bring out a blue-ray drive for it..

I think them saying it wont have any impact is stupid.. Part of the console is the HD-DVD add-on which it will obviously impact as there wont be any new titles for it. It will impact those customers that have already bought. I'm sure in the future they will have to get BR for it otherwise its a next gen console without next gen media disc playback.. Just plain old DVD.

It`s wholely possible m$ could take HD-DVD and use it for the 360, and the new one. It`d be there`s and unique. Help in the anti piracy thing to an extent.

Doubt it tho, I`d imagine the newer console will be BR, not some kind of combo. Media wize u`d have to have BR moving forward.

I doubt microsoft care at all. People who brought the player will probably be *slightly* annoyed though.

im sure some people will be annoyed, but as its an addon its not exactly the end of media playback on the 360.
