Remember that older console generations used what was considered cutting-edge hardware that the time of their respective launches, whereas the Xbox One and PS4 were both regarded as mid-range gaming PCs at the time.

Most estimates put Sony and Microsoft as either breaking even or making a profit at the time of their respective launches this generation. This gen kinda threw that concept out of the window.
