No, I think that Microsoft is delusional enough to have thought that they could get away with it. Either someone managed to talk sense into them, or pre-orders, if they were available, weren't at the expected level.

Everything is getting more expensive. So if you're a video game publisher with a lick of sense, it shouldn't come as a shock to you that people aren't lining up to buy your $80 game made by a badly managed studio. The development of games isn't more expensive because games are inherently more expensive to make. Clair Obscure proved that this isn't true. They're getting more expensive to make because the studios are being insanely mismanaged from top to bottom. The larger the publisher, the more mismanaged their development studios are. That seems to be the trend.

Yet wages aren't going up, It's just pure greed.

Clair doesn't manage their own game engine. The big studios do, sometimes multiple game engines. It's a pretty big difference and deserves to be made in counter argument. It's the reason why even successful studios such as CDPR are switching to UE.

It's not the sole reason for games to get more expensive. It's a multi layered issue just like any other industry. It's not just gaming.

Fact is living becomes harder each year as the giant conglomerates eat their cake and yours too.
